well then let someone else pay him. He has been great but im not wasting cap room on a kicker. they can be replaced. Pats let vinateri bounce when he wanted more cash and didnt miss a beat with gostkowski. 4 years at 9 million? take a walk
He's a good kicker but he isn't anything special. I think 2 years 5 million would be very generous & fair. Anything more than that & he's replaceable.
1.4-1.7 million for 3 years should suffice, maybe with incentives for more by making the bulk of it a roster bonus. hes a good kicker, we don't need to give him Vinitari money, but I think he's earned as raise and a modest length contract. none of this has to guaranteed, there shouldn't be cap issues or anything.
Folk deserves to get paid. I judge a kicker by one thing, and one thing only: Has the kicker cost us a game? Answer: NO, through 4 seasons he has not cost us a single game and has actually been very clutch in must-make situations. He has had nightmare games like the game in Cleveland but the Jets still prevailed. Im not sure that there are many kickers in this league who havent cost there team a game since 2010. Folk has been the best, clearly.
Don't you think a kicker should at least be in the top 5 to be called the best? When a kicker is missing 1 out of every 4 attempts, which is pretty much where he was at for the first 3 out of the 4 years with the Jets, then he is not clearly the best. And to say that he hasn't cost them a game is short sighted. When a coaching staff does not have faith in the kicker they are more likely to go for it on fourth down in borderline situations. In those situations where they get stopped on 4th down who is that on? It would be easy to say it is the coaching staffs fault since they made the decision but with a more clutch kicker they may have been inclined to go for it. I like Folk and I think they should sign him to a reasonable deal like the $4-4.5 mil/3 yrs I mentioned earlier, $2.5-$3 mil year in way above what he is worth.
Folk has gotten better every year, dude is 29. A 2 year deal is sufficient. Clutch kicker - but his value is bad on kickoffs
The guy had a career year and is lucky he is a FA. In the article he's not saying he wants to break the bank, he wants job security because the Jets kept giving him 1 year deals. He was perfect until like week 13 when Rex had him kick in 50 mph and the ball took off like a video game. The Jets shouldn't lose him.
