i don't think anyone has beaten the Pats more times than the Jets over the last 5 years. getting swept in our down years of 2011 and 2012 skews the overall record some. But when the Jets are any good at all, we split, and we won the biggest game of the recent rivalry. we are the Pats biggest rivals, even tho they've had the edge, and they'll be keeping an eye on what we are doing. from the Jets perspective, as well as many other teams, playing the Patriots is a measuring stick. They are extremely well prepared, always give you something new to adjust to, and rarely ever beat themselves. So in order to win, you have to play 60 mins at the top of your game, with little mistakes. They might not be forefront on our minds right now starting camp (you worry about your own team at this point). But the game will be circled, and we'll be studying them soon enough to prepare for that game. i expect 2 good games again this year, and it's really important to our overall season that we come out on top for 1 of them.
Was curious about this so I took to the google. It doesn't give a breakdown by coach, but here are Brady's numbers against the rest of the NFL, by team. He's 18-6 against the Jets overall, 17-7 against Miami, and 22-2 against Buffalo. http://sportslistoftheday.com/2013/...d-head-to-head-record-against-every-nfl-team/ Rex's 4-7 mark is actually pretty good. There are seven teams in the NFL that have never beaten him. That's pretty crazy... nearly 1/4 of the league.
Hey that's a pretty good post. I understand your point, and generally agree with it. In effect you are saying getting ready to play the Pats is not only a good target by a good measuring stick when you do. My only caveat is, again, I wish Rex paid more attention to preparing against Miami, a team he seems to have trouble with.
Patriots should be aware of the Jets, but worried may be too strong. We're the only team aside from Baltimore to beat them at home in the playoffs I believe. We usually give them at least one good game per year and have finished 2nd under them 4/5 times under Rex. However, I hope Rex at least puts some of that energy towards Miami too. They're the team that seems to officially or unofficially end our season/mojo. Start sweeping them and we're going places.
Agree with you completely. Rex has never swept the dolphins and he actually has a losing record against them.
The Jets record against the AFC was awful last year. Jets need to take a 1 game at a time approach. Obviously within the Division Rex needs to be more aware, but you can sweep the entire division and still miss the playoffs. One game at a time Rex.
This means Brady was 11-2 against the Jets before Ryan took over, right? [One loss I remember - that was Mangina. Where did the other loss come from?]
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/200212220nwe.htm Chad was 23/33 for 285, 3 TDs and 0 INTs. Sigh
I actually thought the Ravens' record against Brady would be better than 1-5 cause of how close they usually play them and beating them in the playoffs twice (clearly this is only regular season records). And they did get jipped of beating the Pats during their perfect season - I think Rex may have even goofed calling a timeout late in the game while he was on the staff there. Brady is actually 4-5 against the Broncos plus two more playoff losses so 4-7.
It is definitely a blemish on Rex's record with the Jets. As others allude to, before Rex joined the Jets they were dominating the fish. It really is disturbing. Divisional record is the key to the season. While it is mathematically possible to have a top heavy record against divisional opponents and not make the playoffs, it is nearly impossible as a practical matter to make the playoffs if you get killed in the division. Division record is a tie breaker as well. So I understand the focus on NE as a metric, and as a team that keeps winning the division, getting the higher seed in the playoffs even when the Jets get a playoff spot. But all that great coaching people laud Rex for having should be also spent focusing on Buffalo and especially Miami. Some would say this year especially Buffalo, since they seem poised to be better this year, perhaps even better than the Jets. But I also think Ryan needs to get the team to think they own Miami again. Right now, in the Ryan era, the Jets clearly do not own Miami. Having said that, the last game they played was most satisfying, so hopefully they can build on that.
Without looking it up I think it was in '02. NE finished 9-7 that year, beat Miami in OT in the finale, and then the Jets beat the Packers in the late game to win the division. Earlier that season the Jets beat the Pats, I believe.
Ah... right. That's when Pennington looked like the QB Jets were waiting for. Then everything fell apart, starting with his throwing shoulder. Oh well, time flies.
I have a similar feeling that I had in 09 & 10 regarding the Pats. We can hang with them from a talent perspective & arguably have a better overall roster. It just boils down to how the Jets perform. Patriots will not beat themselves & will not be pushed around. Jets need to play focused, mistake free ball to beat them. Not always the easiest thing for this franchise. That said does New England scare me this year? Not in the least. Is Revis really that much better than Talib? He's definitely better but will he result in a better overall defense? I'm not so sure about that. People here in N.E. Are going crazy over the Brandon Browner move. For 1 he's suspended the first 4 games of the year & secondly he's been inconsistent his entire career. Perhaps he's an upgrade over a guy like Kyle Arrington but he's far from a shut down type corner. I think their front 7 is depending way too much on the return of Vince Wilfork & Tommy Kelly...2 immobile, aging guys coming off major injury. Teams will be able to run the ball against the Patty cakes.
The Patriots should fear the Jets for the two games they play, the Jets WILL beat them. The Patriots dont have to fear the Jets when it comes to winning the division, Geno is a 2nd year starter who will be inconsistent. The Patriots will win there 12-14 games while the Jets will win there 8-10. I believe with our defensive line we can hang with ANYONE in the AFC for one game. (Patriots, Broncos, Colts, Chargers etc)
This is crazy. We have caught up to the Pats, but we don't have a better overall roster - it's not even an argument. They have a top 3 QB, top 3 CB, top 2 TE to start off. I feel we can beat them and even have a chance at sweeping them. It will take a full effort (which is something you cannot depend on w/ the Jets)
