I'm hoping Sanchez is not Eli Manning reincarnated. If he is then Tebow will be the starting QB by mid-season and even if Sanchez takes the job back it's going to take him about 8 years to have a top 10 performance. The biggest QB stat is definitely wins because what Eli has done best in his NFL career is win a few big games in the post-season. I mean seriously, the year the Giants won the Super Bowl in 2007 Eli had losses where he went 21-49 with 4 Ints, and 18-53. He had wins where he went 8-22 and 7-15 with 2 Int's. You think Sanchez survives performances like that this season?
Hell even Eli's number in 07- the Year Eli apparently became elite - were lousy 56.1% 3,336yards 23TD 20INT 9Fum -- 73.9rating. You think if Sanchez put up those numbers the world wouldn't implode mid season?
It was a factor when he "held the ball too long". However, the OL was terrible last year. Anyone who doesn't realize that needs to re-watch the games from last year.
The OL was worse than in previous years, but they were not as bad as Sanchez defenders made them out to be, compared to the rest of the league. I watched every game and don't see the need to rewatch them merely because Sanchez fans insist on this fiction that he had a subpar OL all year last year compared to the rest of the league. That is an urban legend among Sanchez fans.
The OL was terrible last year. We had an injured Mangold. An injured Slauson. A complete bafoon at RT. Brick had a terrible year. You should re-watch the games.
No to mention after the Baltimore game where he was nearly killed he became a different player. He didn't trust his tackles, his running game was avg, no play action could work, and his receivers couldn't get separation. Was a recipe for a bad season. Can't say well Sanchez didn't do well under pressure...well what did everyone else do? Did Plax get open? Did Holmes get open? Did Schtty mix things up? No he moved everything closer to the vest and said 3 yard out and that is it. Mark was basically forced to take three steps or less - throw an out or a slant.
Haha, Big surprise, BB doesn't want to do research and back up his claim with actual facts or stats or examples. Just stuff that he 'knows'. This guy must be a football genius.. BB how are you not an NFL coach?! You're doing the world a great disservice by not displaying your innate talents of being a Big Jerk
People need to let go of last year and at the same time not over-react to one game this year. Like it or not, this is Mark Sanchez's last chance to remain the starting QB of the New York Jets. If he builds on Week 1, he'll be here for at least another two years. If he falters, like he has before, the Tebow chants will begin as the team will begin to lose and he'll lose his job and be gone after the season. That's just the way it is.
and the piss poor play calling, complicated schemes that never played to his strength had nothing to do with it? Single factor stats are misleading and when used out of context are simply BS. Cimini, for more useless analysis to help make your case please see Skip Bayless and Keith Evans (NFL dumb and Dumber)
Being committed without recourse for 3 more years and over 10 million a year says otherwise. Tebow chants = irrelevant. The Jets have no financial commitment to Tebow. If you want the truth, follow the money.
This is key -- even when Sanchez was not directly under pressure, it was couldn't have been clearer that earlier hits had gotten in his head. The Baltimore game was the most obvious example of this, but we saw it more than once.
What does it matter last year was last year. This year so far so good good protection good Qb play lets keep it up.
Answer one question, do you believe that Sanchez was one of the better protected QB's last year? I'll reply to the rest of your post after you answer that.
Someone is deluding themselves here. Sanchez got a ton of blame for horrible pass protection, horrible play calling, and horrible execution by WR's in their routes. Hard to play great when you had all those crutches. look at Bradford now. He is gonna seriously regress.
It's hard to regress from where he wound up last season. I suspect he'll improve over that but not to the level that makes Ram's fans go wow or the offense to become very effective. Remember that Schotty can always get somewhat acceptable results out of his QB's, he just can't get top line consistent performance. Chad took the Jets to the playoffs against a weak schedule in 2006. He had by far his worst healthy season while doing so but he played acceptably.
So he's been hit/hurried 86 times which is the fifth lowest in 2011, but was sacked 39 times which is the fifth highest?
While I agree that the Jets' OL wasn't the historically awful swiss cheese line that some here would like to believe, I think the statistics on being pressured can be misleading. For example: In scenario A we have a QB get pressured by a blitzing corner who tries to slap the ball out of the QB's hand just as he's releasing his pass. The CB misses the ball and loosely collides with the QBs back. The QB staggers a step or two off-balance and falls under his own power (possibly looking for a flag, or he could just be Eli Manning and be kind of awkward like that), but is completely unhurt physically. In scenario B we have a DT that has bullrushed his way up the middle and reaches the QB just as he releases his pass. This 330 lb mammoth makes solid contact with the QB and takes him to the ground. A roughing the passer flag is thrown and Ravens' fans everywhere start bitching (regardless of if their team was in this game or not). The QB rolls over to his stomach, takes a knee, and slowly gets on two feet. He refuses to leave the game, but is obviously shaken up. Both of these scenarios would show up exactly the same in a statistical analysis. The truth of the matter, however, is that scenario B is influencing the game MUCH more than scenario A. Sanchez took some wicked shots last year and he got gunshy. I know some of this is on Mark; he needs to be mentally and physically tough if he wants to be an NFL QB. Regardless, a statistical analysis can be misleading as numbers don't always show the impact of a given play.
