It should be stated that Cowher's daughter (the one that played basketball at Princeton) worked for the the CBS Morning show and I believe she lives in New York. I'm not saying it's the reason he would take the job but being close to family could be a huge factor plus having Woody as your boss (who you know has connections in high places) certainly could be good person to have as your friend.

Cowher had consistently kept the Steelers in contention through all sorts of personnel changes. He really had no QB prior to Big Ben. Ben was his weak spot during the SB year. The running game was his key then. He has also knocked heads with the likes of Bilicheat, and Peyton Manning. He's won some and lost some but you know what? He was in the playoffs more often than not. Can we say that on the day after our season has ended?

I have to think Woody and Mike Tannenbaum will roll out the red carpet for Cowher much like they did for Favre. It appears, for more reasons than Woody would care to divluge, that he is committed to making the right moves. Selling PSL's with Rex Ryan and Spagnoulo as coach will not cut it. It would be viewed as a step backwards starting over with a rookie coach.

All indications point to Cowher. Marty Schottenheimer would be a fall back option. I know the knock on him but he also consistently won ballgames.

    Cowher in '09!!!

You probably don't' want to hear then that Favre was 49-16 in December too over his career ... before this year ...

Cowher is the best choice for this team given whats out there. He has legitimacy with a SB ring, he's a 3-4 guy, has had success with young QBs (if we go that route), and would give this team an identity as a run-first tough-nosed defensive team.

Mangini may have been smart, but his overall coaching philosophy could never get this team to a super bowl. No identity on offense, no creativity on Defense, and perhaps his biggest mistake was not having the balls to fire Sutton after last season.

We need to win NOW; we have about a 3 year window with this current team to win a SB and we have the talent to do so. Cowher can get us there. You cant worry that he might not be here long. He left Pittsburgh in pretty good hands with Tomlin along with an awesome team, I'd like to think he would do the same here.

No I know the exact week you were talking about im sitting there like Cowher sounds really interested in coaching and it sounds like he wants to coach the jets. I made a post about possibly cowher coaching after that show. I think it was like around the tennessee game`

I think you're right. IIRC, he was the only guy in the studio who picked the Jets to win, and everyone thought he was crazy. He was overly excited about Leon that day.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cowher at least had heard from the Jets about a possible vacancy at that point.

Look, one of my best friends is a Steeler fan, are far as he's concerned Cowher is the friggin' balls. I wish I could love a Jets coach as much as he loves Cowher.

Haha...agreed...unless maybe if you want Parcells. After those two everybody else is cannon fodder.

The reason Cowher has said immediately to not wish to talk to the Browns is that he vowed he would never coach in Pittsburgh's division again.

The only way we get Cowher is if Tanny is fired/demoted. He will want to bring in his own people. I don't see that happening. We are going to be looking at a crappy retread or a rookie head coach once again.

i say if tannys gotta go then give him the pioli role of executive vp and let him weigh in on everything. the jets should do whatever it takes to bring him in. hes a tough proven winner who will give us a shot every year. he also has the greatest coaching quality a man can posess: BALLS. cowher dont take no shit people. he gets what he wants out of his guys and does what he wants on the field. you dont like it, too bad. unlike mangini's BS wannabe toughness, cowher is the real deal. i would love to see guys like Baker and LC (who i love on the field, but, less face it, they dont take too kindly to authority) pull the shit they did with mangini. COWHER IS ALL THAT IS MAN!!!!

If I were in place of Cowher, I would demand to bring my own GM too after seeing how Jets compeltely destroyed their future at QB position by wasting their top 6 pick in the draft and outright releasing what turned out to be #2 overall rated QB this year to division rivals.
