He brings a huge following which is very valuable to stations that rely on viewers for money. I guess that concept doesn’t make sense to you though.
Doomed! Doomed, I say! Doomed! That reminds me, I always thought it was funny as Hell how the British say things when they're insulted or angry like, "Good day, Sir! I said GOOD DAY!" Imagine saying that on the streets of New York? You're gonna get a, "Huh? 'Good day', what the fck? Fck you, buddy." "I SAID GOOD DAY!" I don't know anything about this McAfee feller except that he killed a couple of people in a plane crash, killed a guy in Belize, liked to get crapped on like OBJ, and hung himself in a Spanish prison.
McAfee sucks. I dont think his show is even interesting or unique, its just a clone of the Dan LeBatard show and people got tired of the inside jokes and bro-butt stuff from that show
ESPN canning McShay has me the most pissed. I havent been the biggest McShay fan, but at least the guy talks football and sticks to it. Anyone watch the NBA Draft? There was no basketball talk, 3 ladies in the studio with mom interviews between picks. I am concerned ESPN wants that model for the NFL Draft. It was unwatchable Also McShay was roommates with Joe Douglas so from a Jets fan standpoint we lose that journalistic scoop
Most ESPN programming that isn’t a game is dreadful. The only thing that’s watchable anymore is College Gameday for football. Even NFL live has turned into garbage. You’re right though. ESPN’s desire for human interest stories to draw in non-sports fans has alienated their sports fanbase.
and gameday is a shell of what it used to be, corso is too damn old among other things. But yes it is refreshing to watch a show where they take you through all the matchups and discuss them, most primarily based on football and strategy I dont care about player's off-the-field hobbies or their moms. I can't be the only one. I wonder where they are getting this feedback that makes them think they need to continue to go down that direction.
It's probably negotiated into their PR deals, the people that care about that shit most are the players being covered. And the groupies that are building files on them I guess. The content on Sunday is almost being catered to the demographic of a professional athlete and not the fans anymore. Well except for the gambling stuff anyway.
I don't like McAfee at all. The little bit I had to listen to his show the day Rodgers announced his intentions were excruciating. But he does have his fans, I will give him that. I don't watch any ESPN programming so at the end of the day it's a nothing burger for me.
I remember when the sports network I worked at hired Keith Olbermann to be the star anchor. They threw a ton of money at him and gave him editorial control. I thought it was an insanely irresponsible decision... and it was.
Which is why I was surprised they let David Pollack go. I thought he was very knowledgeable about the game, spoke well and had good insight.
Why must you always be looking for an argument? You don't agree - fine! Only time will tell what he brings to the audience and for how long, compared with what he drives away. I'm sure that concept escapes your grasp completely.
It’s not an argument for argument sake. You said something patently false about his value. You don’t have to like what he says but he brings something valuable to the table which is a large viewer base. The more people he can draw, the better the ratings of his content on ESPN will be thus creating value. Aside from that, I’d be curious as to what his demographic is. A lot of the Jets fans here who I’d guess are 45+ expressed that they don’t like McAfee. If he has a younger audience base, that’s also good for ESPN.
