Signing a mediocre QB to elite money out of desperation after whiffing on the #2 overall would mark the end of his job imo. It’s best to have patience here.
And they’re not going to bring in a player of Rodgers’ caliber until that happens. When he played last season he was vastly improved over the past couple seasons so he’s earned the right to start. Rodgers isn’t going anywhere to sit on the bench and Tua isn’t being benched. Miami is not trading for Rodgers.
If what Carr is considered mediocre with his Defenses he’s had and looking at his overall stats, sign me Tf up. Guess you didn’t watch Jets QBs last year. We miss on him and then what hope for Jimmy G and Tanehill both very mediocre QBs compared to Carr. Y’all gotta cut this nonsense out man
If Carr signs for $35 mil a year that puts him 10th and once Daniel Jones gets badly overpaid that will make Carr 11th. That’s nowhere near an overpay and it’s not elite money. It’s top 10-15 money for a top 10-15 QB edit: and who gives a shit about the yearly average? It’s about guarantees and structure. AAV is just a dick swinging contest.
What we don’t know yet is if JD and the Jets made any commitment to Carr (other than Saleh raving about Carr) with the intention of making an offer or signing him. Meanwhile the Saints have made several moves this weekend to free up some salary space, according to Fansided, now has $25M space showing So I agree with Colorado, if the Jets really want. Him or not waiting around, at least they would have made the offer or sign him by now.
What does his defenses have to do with his overall stats? If anything, given his defenses sucked so bad, his numbers are inflated since he’s been playing catch-up all the time, yet his numbers are inflated to average.
Peter King said the market for Carr is "lukewarm at best" Carr's agent trying to stoke the fire by blasting it to the media that he's "leaning towards the Jets", as if to say "come on New Orleans, offer some more money for my client"
Any report that has come out from a credible source? Russini has been plugged in on the QB situation: https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/02/25/report-derek-carr-wants-35-million-per-year/
We’ll see. For better or worse Watson and the idiotic Browns reset the QB market. Reports are Daniel Jones has been asking for 48m a season, Jackson wants a bazillion dollars all guaranteed…. It’s a dangerous time in the market for QB’s. Stafford and Brady give hope, but it’s just as easy to be signing the next Russell Wilson or Deshaun Watson. The key to me is the longevity of the deal. If we’re committed to Carr for the next 5 years it can spell an absolute disaster for us if he bombs. People are pointing to the Raiders defense for Carr’s “average-ness”, but great QB’s with poor defenses usually put up staggering numbers because they’re always throwing the ball the keep up. Carr’s numbers are not that staggering at all, they’re just about avg or slightly above. He’s been in the league 9 years, he’s shown what he is. I don’t mind that for a couple years but to marry it for half a decade or more…. Yuck
The Browns are idiots and you have to hope that everyone ignores what they did rather than making it the standard. I really hope no one follows suit with Lamar and I definitely hope it's not us. That would be far more disastrous than any other option we have available. If Carr is signing a deal for $35 mil a year then you want to be tied to that for at least 3 years while giving the team the option to move forward with any more. 35 is a number that Carr can easily live up to and outperform... with the QB market accelerating the way it is, 35 a year for Carr in two years will look like an absolute steal unless he implodes.
I am not sure who is being used, it's hard to tell. But to be fair, Derek has been patient. He met with multiple teams multiple times, starting a month ago with NO. No he is not Mahomes (which is why he actually hit the market), but he is still a 4 time Pro Bowl QB, averaging nearly 4K yards in his career, and still in his prime at 31 years of age. Reasonably, the time has come to make a decision on him. In the next few days he will be off the market - possibly even today.
