This source seems a bit more reputable than Incarcerated Bob. And it is also more logical. I mean, you can always argue that the more options you have, the more leverage there is. So, in this sense, yeah, every option is a leverage. But this case does not seem any more leverage than normal. It's not like when Cousins went to the Jets, negotiated the best offer, then just took it to Minny for them to increase theirs. It was more like Jets were one of the options, which may have helped negotiations, but more like he has given enough time for everyone, and wanted to sign now while the Jets still pursuing their #1 prize, Rodgers.
100% this. The messaging from the Jets FO that they are only a QB away from being contenders is flawed. First off, the D is good, but its unproven. Easy to envision a setback year. Second, the O has some nice pieces, but need 1 year for a healthy Breece and at least one other passing weapon. O-line needs more dudes too. They are heading in the right direction. Let White and some other QB (Winston?) compete and let Wilson hold his sippy cup.
Because Ouchy thinks he's smarter than JD and would be a better GM. If you don't believe me, just ask him. I shit you not.
Dov Kleiman on Twitter: "Retired NFL QB Philip Rivers has expressed desire to return to the NFL. He already contacted the #49ers and #Dolphins about coming out of retirement late in the 2022 season, according to @richeisen https://t.co/aEfLAF8iDl" / Twitter
I don’t really get how the Jets could honestly ask a player for patience while they waited to see if they could get someone better than said player. Seems like a bold strategy from a bottom tier franchise.
FA doesn't start until next week, right? Things can change dramatically overnight. And we don't know if JD already had a deal worked out with GB for the most part? At this point I don't see that they've "lost control of the situation"> It may well be that this situation is exactly what they've been aiming toward. Douglas isn't Maccagnan or Idzik. Maybe he's not a great GM, but I don't think he's clueless, so I'd be surprised if he isn't still on control of what he wants to do at this point. Of course what he wants to do is dependent on what others - Rodgers, GB, et. al. - want to do, but we don't even know if Carr was a serious option for him unless DC agreed to terms Douglas knew he wouldn't agree to. I know. We're all desperate for an answer to the 2023 QB question (and beyond), but only Douglas knows what he's trying to do, and he's not talking.
This is actually a really fair deal when you think about the way contracts are going. The Jets are so stupid when their situation at QB is so precarious!
I suspect the Jets strategy was flawed from the get go if indeed Woody wanted to hold steady for AR first. That put JD with his back against the wall. If Carr was pro Saints or on the fence that cemented his decision, no need waiting like he was second fiddle. If he was leaning towards the Jets I think the whole approach soured him some and he gave the Jets a date to make up their minds. Case closed. I’m sure we know very little as to what really went down, but at this point if AR has not expressed any inclination that he would consider the Jets seriously, we are negotiating from a position of weakness and full of false hope.
He's has a higher passer rating, a better competition percentage, a better TD% and a higher yards per attempt. We can split hairs on the word "considerably", but he's been the better QB in my opinion.
Rodgers talent on the field would be ideal in a vacuum, so I can understand why they'd wait for him vs making a move for Carr. Also, I know I'm in the extreme minority, but if this situation ends up with Lamar Jackson as the Jets QB heading into next season I'll be ecstatic. I know the cost would be higher than simply signing a FA or even trading for Rodgers, but if Douglas makes that move I'm willing to trust he's got a plan. However he gets it done, Lamar Jackson leads elite offenses, period. And the Jets have some high-end pieces to help accentuate that ability. Yes, I fully understand that this scenario would cause the majority to have an aneurism and renounce their fandom.
Have you ever watched them play and considered that Garoppolo has played with the best two YAC players in the league since they’ve been here as well as a top tier running game and head coach? I mean if you want to just use numbers, they’re comparable. But if you watch tape, Jimmy G’s offense eats up defenses for him. Brock Purdy went to a AFC Championship game with ease in that offense.
I agree. Jimmy's numbers are a product of San Fran offense. Carr to me is the better QB and if he had a good defense his numbers would probably be even better. We lost a good one.
