    I'd be careful to draw too many conclusions from the stats. We don't know the circumstances of the Winston sacks. Hunter was beaten badly on multiple occasions....before Sanchez was even able to make his first read. He also gave up a number of QB hits that didn't result in sacks. Hunter was clearly a liability on the Jets offense.

    BTW....where did you find the o-lineman stats?

    If all checks out well, Snyder will likely offer big $ and bring him to the Skins.

    I say sign Winston and lets move on to the draft, If this does get done then the next biggest hurdle would be a safty, since last year we could not cover a tight End over the middle to save our lifes. Next of the list would be a WR or RB if one becomes available. Then take the best player who falls to 16 and I think we could be back in it again. JMO
    Go Jets

    Thats an improvement. Plus as DeathbyJets mentioned above we dont know the circumstances. Sanchez would get sacked throwing wide receiver screens. Houston has a downfield passing game so Winston may have had to hold his blocks longer in pass protection.

    The more that I think about it, I would just get Winston in, Edwards, and Landry and then draft as follows....

    1=OLB
    2= Doug Martin

    That would be great if we had near enough cap room for all three. I highly doubt we do, because Winston is going to get paid big time by someone. Edwards and Landry may be in line, I just don't think if we are able to sign Winston there is going to be much moeny for any one else at that point.

    Stats,Inc also. I'll find the links when I'm back at my home PC

    How did Winston give up less than 20 pressure in '10 when he gave up 9.5 sacks?

    Not sure picking up Winston is the right move for us right now. Or one that the front office would be willing to make. I agree that he's going to want big money and he's most likely going to get it based on his durability alone. If we didn't guarantee Hunter his $$ this would be a no-brainer but with Winston being not that much of an upgrade we can't afford to be paying 3 mediocre RTs starter money. Give Vlad a shot after having an offseason program to let the Scheme and pro game set in. Saying he's a bust and overpaying for an aging RT isn't going to help this team get anywhere in the long run. We just have to hope Vlad can win something in the trenches on the line and not just the King Ugly contest.

    We have ~$13 mil in cap space right now. If MT can clear some more space I still think we have a shot of getting Super Mario here and get Edwards back on the cheap. Holmes Edwards Kerley Keller McKnight are all Sanchez will need if he's given time.

    I don't think Schaub is very mobile.

    Maybe cutting Winston wasn't purely for cap reasons. The cap might have been the straw that broke the camel's back. It's hard to say without having actually watched the games. More than a few of Sanchez sacks last year happened when the Jets went spread early on before they started really trying to protect the QB.

    We forget that the Jets stabilized some in the mid-season and were actually protecting Sanchez much better than early in the year and then they played a bunch of teams in a row that had a real pass rush and it all fell apart again.

    In some of those games the matchups were so ridiculous it's hard to believe they happened. Babineaux on Hunter is a good example but the Denver game had a pass-rushing beast on each side of the line and the Jets had no answer there. Same for the Giants game.

    We HAVE to find a RT in free agency. I just don't think the draft will cut it. Anyone we draft will need to be groomed, and it would be unrealistic to assume they can be a good starter from Day 1. If that happens we're looking at Hunter part deux, only the young guy will have a higher ceiling. I'm all for Winston as long as he doesn't command too much money.

    Agreed, we need to save our draft picks for a safety or pass rusher imo.

    The problem is the Tackle pool is weak in free agency this year. After Winston there really isnt much out there unless there are more surprise cuts coming.

    I believe not signing Winston is one of the most detrimental things we could do this off season.

    This isnt true, their are many RT candidates in this draft that can start from day 1 at RT.

    This includes first round guys like Jon Martin and Mike Adams who are very real possibilities at #16

    Second round guys like Bobby Massie and Kelchi Osemele also have the ability to start from day 1 over Hunter (although they wont be as impactful as those first round talents.)
