MINOR TEAR , MAJOR TEAR,,sux either way I have had both and can tell you that surgery is unavoidable and inevitable ! He can have surgery today and be back for the playoffs insert giggles or he can try and play thru it but this aint good news for Decker, Jet fans or fantasy football owners
Surgery isn't necessarily unavoidable with a rotator cuff injury. Depending on the size of the tear and which of the muscles it was in, it could heal on its own in as little as 3-4 weeks. If it doesn't, then surgery knocks him out even if they get to the playoffs. That's a 4-6 month recovery minimum.
Big cat,,,,,structural tears do not heal,,,,if you have a tear it either stays as it is or tears worse. Maybe I'm wrong but as I said I have too much experience with these. If you have a desk job you can live with a small tear, if your job requires you to lift your arms over head and catch footballs or push off defensive backs or requires you getting tackled and landing on it,,,,,,you are in trouble,,,,,very fixable but not without surgery,,,,,he can take a cortisone shot or 3 and that will mask the pain but in the meantime it could easily tear worse,,,,lets see what they tell us regarding his MRI but my guess is he has surgery in the next month if not sooner
When it comes to partial thickness (incomplete) rotator cuff tears, whether or not it heals on its own is virtually a 50-50 split and can't really be determined by initial evaluation unless it's an obvious, large tear. It can only be seen after monitoring the patient's healing for a few weeks and observing whether or not strength and stability is improving. They're probably going to give him a combination of NSAIDs and corticosteroid injections for the next couple weeks and make an evaluation from there. If it's not improving, he'll have no choice but to undergo surgery which will end his season no matter how far the team goes. Also, even if we're fortunate enough to have it heal on its own, it would be moronic and irresponsible to put him out there before 3-4 weeks from now. If he plays before the injury is fully healed, he's at a very high risk of increasing the size of the tear, possibly to full thickness.
I hear you big CAT,,,,,the other thing is that if anyone does ever have this surgery they should know that MRI s only show so much and that the docs NEVER really know the severity until they have you on the operating table,,its supposed to be a simple surgery,,,,,,,BUT,,,,,,,there is almost always some cleaning up to do in there.
So if this requires surgery how many months will he be out for? Will he be back in time for our Super Bowl run?
The fact that he already tried to play through it and apparently made it worse is a very, very bad sign. That might wind up ending his season.
Haha I sense sarcasm in the second question, but return to play is about 4-6 months from the date of the surgery. The thing is, they're going to wait a couple weeks to see if it will self-heal so the recovery clock on the surgery is getting pushed back if that's the route they go. If he had the surgery today, there's an outside chance that he would be able to play in the Super Bowl (but definitely nothing before it). Given that the procedure wouldn't happen until weeks from now if it's not healing, we won't see him until 2017.
Sad news for Eric Decker. Hopefully he can have it heal enough on it's own to make a return in 2016. Then after the season have surgery and be 100% by camp.
Every season there's some nagging injury that plagues him the entire year it seems. Whether it's the hamstring (virtually every year) or this shoulder issue now. Shut him down and let's move on. Love Decker but I'm OK with seeing what we got in Enunwa as a full time outside receiver to possibly take over for Marshall by next year.
This isn't a "next man up" situation, this will require reworking of the whole offense. Decker is quietly one of the most underrated players in the league.
Regardless, it's really a pain management situation. I've torn my rotator cuff twice and I've also played with it. It's a more manageable injury for linebackers, defensive lineman, etc. because a brace can be worn to limit mobility above the head. The problem is the injury restricts movement of the shoulder and really prevents a player from lifting his arm above their heads which is obviously crucial for a wide receiver. Either way it's sucks, but he can play with it although he won't have as much grip strength in his hand or be able to catch highly thrown balls effectively. Edit: To add to it, Decker is a great player in this offense, and it will definitely hurt, but receiver is the one position we have a little bit of depth at. On the surface it looks like we might be able to get past this, but it's going to require these young guys to earn their money.
We need to go ahead and shut him down. Deck is 29 and based on his role in the offense could be effective for a bit into his 30's. I'm not saying we don't have a chance at making and winning the Superbowl this year, but we probably aren't making and winning the Superbowl this year. This will give the Jets a prime opportunity to find out if the 3 Musketeers have game enough to be PTP'ers. note: I should say 2 Musketeers because Jalin Marshall needs a little me time on the bench to figure out his whole hands situation. Maybe they got him the wrong sized stick'em gloves or something. note 2: looks like Jalin is hurt anyway; so, there ya go.
I agree. I don't see any way he escapes surgery. When I lived in NYC, I strained my left rotator cuff and had a slight tear in my right rotator cuff. My doctor suggested trying physical therapy first. I had a very slight improvement for the first 2-3 weeks of therapy, then I plateaued and wound up having to have surgery. I couldn't lift my arm above my head. That was followed by a short period of healing and then physical therapy for a couple of months. It took about a year for it to heal completely and the pain to go away. Even with work in the gym to strengthen the rotator cuff following physical therapy, my shoulder has never been as strong and I haven't had the full range of motion. I wasn't a professional athlete and was probably 15 years older than Decker at the time I tore the rotator cuff, and the surgeon might not have been as good as Decker's will be, but I'll be surprised if he plays another down this season and is as effective in the future as he has been.
His recovery probably isn't going to be helped by his nympho wife. They'll have to lay off the kinky positions for awhile.
Decker didn't even look like he could move his right arm. He didn't even fist bump his teammates with his right hand. He's definitely getting IR'd. No point, this team is about to be 2-6. No sense risking it Deck. Come back when Fitz's bitch ass is gone.
I'd put him on IR...... we aren't going anywhere, and that'll let us get an extended look at what Peake and Anderson can do.....
