Personally, I think he got fair market value, but that he's not worth it. I see him as an average #2; not anywhere near a #1. That said, we paid $7 mil a year for our best receiver and the Pats just paid $12 mil a year to completely shut him down - that's fine by me.
Steve Smith would be getting about $10M a year right now if he was in his prime. Neither of the other two was an upper-tier player at any point. Stevie Johnson had one season over 80 catches in his career. Marques Colston is a good WR but he's never had to deal with a defense trying to shut him down because the Saints have had the spread and they've had good options all around him including Jimmie Graham and excellent receiving backs.
Nah, it was more of a swipe at Revis and a minor dig at Decker. I just hope we signed Pierre Garcon and not Austin Collie.
What evidence do you have that proves Tate is better? He has never had a 1000 yard season and had never eclipsed 7 TDs in one season
I'm not sure what any of this mean. Are you saying they are not current or at least former #1s for their teams? I think you are confusing #1 with being a top tier WR. Not every #1 WR is getting paid 10+ million dollars for their teams. Every team budget differently. It's highly unlikely that the Jets will be paying another WR more than what Decker is getting any time soon. Short of trading up for Watkins, it's also unlikely that they will expect a WR drafted in the upcoming draft to take on the responsibility of being the #1. So for all intents and purposes Decker will be our #1 for the foreseeable future until someone ,hopefully a draft pick, takes that spot.
Man you guys are so stuck on numbers. Not saying he's better than Decker but don't you think Tate would have eclipse 1000 yards and 7 TDs playing with Peyton the last couple of years?...SMH
Decker is a great signing by us. He was the best guy out there and we didn't let him leave without signing a deal. Normally if you are getting the number one wide out on the market you pay through the teeth..Idzik did a good job with keeping it low. This is just the start. What a good start. Also they got the RT done quickly. This draft is going to be really important and deep with players. Decker is a really solid player, someone to build around through the draft. I hope they make a move for Owen Daniels too.
We need yardage. Decker's produced over 2300 yards the last two years....1,288 last year. Our top two produced 979 yards. I just hope Geno can find him.
I'll say this. Holmes was due to make $10 mill more than Decker over the course of his contract and I'd much much much rather have Decker. We've upgraded the position significantly. Oh, and fuck Revis - I hope Brady rapes him in the shower.
We paid Decker the price of a very good not great receiver. That's about what Decker is. The Jets' receivers entering today were Jeremy Kerley, David Nelson, Stephen Hill and Greg Salas. The Jets needed to shift everyone on that list down two spots. Decker is one. Now we can sign another or draft a young receiver or both.
decent size, not great speed, pretty good hands. no separation, very good blocker. if i remember correctly he was a te at some point in college. hes a decent player, not a 1, not a game changer but a solid player. so dont expect too much out of him and you will be happy. if you expect 1000 yards out of him and him to be the savior of the offense you will probably be disappointed. its funny how some hate right away and others just completely fucking gush over a guy just because he became a jet. like he is the greatest player in the world.
This move lets us not worry about picking up a big possession receiver. This draft seems to have a lot of smaller, technician type WR's which would round out our offense nicely and who will be available in both the 1st and 2nd rounds. We'll have to see how he does with Geno throwing to him, but this definitely fills a gaping hole we have in the offense. If we don't pick up another WR or go TE in the first two rounds, TJ Jones out of Notre Dame would be an excellent fit for what we need at WR in the later rounds. Somebody's going to pick him up and be real happy they did.
If he's going to be a #1 that sucks. If we'll pair him up with someone like Ebron or Evans then this is awesome. We can now fix our WR problem in the 1st round and have the rest of the rounds to play with. We have a bright future.
He likes what he sees from Geno: Manish Mehta Eric Decker tells @MikeKlis nobody can compare to Peyton, but he likes Geno: "He improved all season in tough market. Pretty impressive" #nyj
