Bit of a stretch there. He was thrown to the wolves. Terrible. Worse injury than Geno's, since Mark did nothing to deserve that.

I know Petty isn't ready but I really want to see what he can do against first or second teamers and I hope we get to see that tomorrow night.

    As for Fitzpatrick....

He has been disappointing in camp so far at least for me since i had hoped he would come in and take the job away from Smith. So I have to hope that is about lingering effects of his leg issues and also not getting support from the CS for a real competition to become the starter.

You have to think the CS now will be all in on helping him get ready, and any lingering leg issues will improve with some more time.

Fitz has the potential to be an Alex Smith type Qb for this team. If the Jets get a good running game going and can field a competent OL, he may be enough go get them to the playoffs.

Smith Fans here would say the same about him. But I have long felt Smith's downside is more likely to come out than his upside.

i think our chances drastically increase with him under center. how good can he be? if it all clicks i can see a 28td/14INT type year. thats the ceiling. i think more likely he can be a 22 TD 10 int guy who doesnt turn it over doesnt take big losses, and helps keep the games close enough where we can try and pull out wins late.

i think he gives us an outside shot at 9-10 wins

Now that $1mm arm/2 cent head geNO is off for a few months I hope the CS realizes they now have an Ivy League guy at QB so they can scrap the dumbed-down for geNO 2 read system.

yeah this is basically spot on. but its also our best shot. keep it close and try to pull it out late. hopefully with marshall we can rely on him to make the plays and not so much fitz.

Which is 84-100% better than smith has done in either of his two years..i'll take it. In his last 5 years Firzpatrick has thrown 23,24,24,14,and 17 TDS while in his two years smith has thrown for 12 and 13..hardly the argument you want to make here.

very easy. Fitz been in NFL 10 years so you know what ur getting with him not much IMO if he bounced around like he has. Now Geno may or may not be the future of this team but now we may not never know.

This. I just want off the qb carousel. Starting fitz does not get us closer to that. It just delays finding the guy.i am guessing that was managements thinking as well. Now we aee sitting here pinning our hopes to to a 10 year 5 team never been in the playoffs journeyman at best qb and people are optimistic? . If he was playing so well last year why didn't ghe Texans keep him?

The Jets could win 10 or 11 games with Fitzpatrick under center for all 16 games. The defense just needs real competency out of the offense not fireworks. I think the Jets odds of winning 9+ games just went way up if Fitzpatrick can stay healthy.

Geno could have won some games also but he has not demonstrated the ability to move the offense consistently yet. Too many 3 and outs, too many turnovers, too many lost opportunities so far in his career. He would have had to make a big step up to get to the level that Fitzpatrick has consistently displayed, let alone become a star.
