Or you can take out the game he got hurt and his yards per game jumps from 206 to 223, or take out his game against the Giants and he goes to 16 TD with 5 INTs. See how that works. You can also look at the games they lost while he was QB, the D gave up 30 or more points in 4 of 5 loses. This Jets D shouldn't be giving up 30 points in many games. I am pretty sure you are going to be pretty far off the mark with this post.
The important thing is that Marshall and Decker are healthy. When Devin Smith comes back the QB job may not be so hard to fill.
holy shit the optimism is unreal. There's a reason why he's a journeyman quarterback. Hint: It's not cause he's good. Fuck him. We need to draft a real QB
We really do. Another incident like this most likely jeopardizes Geno as a long-term idea in the minds of the front office and the coaching staff. Can you imagine signing him to a 4-year extension with any sort of guaranteed money with things like cursing at a fan, missing a meeting the day before a game, potentially cursing at a flight attended (denied) and now this on his resume? I actually like him a little bit as a player and I thought he had matured as a person, but even if he comes back and plays well the organization has to be concerned about going forward with him as the "future". He's a short term solution if anything at this point, which is really a shame because I was optimistic for him. Then you've got Fitzpatrick, who obviously isn't in the long term plan, and Petty, who is a nice project with good tangibles but it would be foolish to put all of your eggs into that basket. But the problem is that 6-7 wins is probably the most realistic projection for this team, which would put them in the 10-12 pick range. So they're not getting the top QB prospect and they might not even get #2. Is this class deep enough to the point where they could get a good value by taking the third best quarterback in the low teens? I'm not sure. Cardale, Goff, Cook and Hackenberg are the top 4, but they all have significant question marks. There are no can't misses like Luck in this draft. We'll know more in January. So round and round the QB carousel goes, where it stops? Nobody knows.
Ok, I will support Fitz because he's the guy now. I don't like him as a player and I don't think k he's that good but he's the current QB. So I support that. I have an issue with the OP though. If you hope Fitz plays well enough to keep Geno on the bench, that's not a good thing for us in the long term. We need our QB of the future, everyone was hopeful Geno could improve enough to be that guy. Now we are looking at a very bad situation ahead of us. If we have a shitty year though, I will instantly be on the Jones for QB 2016 campaign.
Wow, I really liked the stat that every team he beat last year is on the Jets schedule this year, but then I realized that every team he lost to except the Steelers is also on the Jets schedule. Weird overlap of schedules between the 2014 Texans and 2015 Jets.
That's what this defense is built for. He needs to be better than average till that moron gets back on the DLine Then...we can play baseball score games. 7-3,10-7, 5-0,6-3...whatever... Fitz, much like Marty Schottenheimer can probably get you to 10. Then, probably one and done.
Fitz did not play well last year - without one 300+ yard, 6 TD , 0 int game -- he is nowhere near the QB rating that is touted. Fucking Jets fan are so quick to discount 4 good games by Geno at the end of the season, but then argue you can't discount 1 good game the guy whose balls are in their mouth had.
you meant to say... "you can't discount 1 good game the guy whose balls they have in their mouth had." English, it's a language. Style points count.
Trust me i hate fitz too .. but to be fair all those teams he beat last year we're playing them this year.. so.. i mean.. yah. lol.
This team is not a Super Bowl contender with Geno Smith. If Fitzpatrick plays solid and protects the football, this team might compete for a playoff spot.
Whether you believe it or not (I don't), Geno represented more of an upside for this team. I don't think he would've hit his stride because he's too unaware of the rush. He presented the idea of 4-12 again or 11-5 if he takes the next step which was ultimately a huge if. It almost puts the mind at ease knowing Fitzpatrick is in there though. We know what we're getting with him and with a solid team around him he can run a pro NFL offense. He kept his team alive in the playoff hunt last year and SHOULD morph into the game manager role. You can't deny he's smart, but he seemed to scale back the gunslinger mentality last year in turning the ball over a lot less than his averages for his career. I'm interested to see how it turns out. Fitzpatrick seems to assure us a smaller range of records in possibly being a 7-9 win team. When all is said and done, it could be the Cinderella story of the year in the league. One can hope. I'm not that optimistic though. Something tells me we're heading for 2005 all over again with Fitzy getting knocked out in mid October effectively ending the season.
