The SOJs will never die until the jets get out hopes up, THEN beat all the teams they are supposed too. Once again tonite, the built our hopes up, then LOST to a team they are supposed to beat.
This is what I don't get. The Lphins, as much as I hate them, are not a bad football team. They've lost to Atlanta, Indy and San Diego...good teams. Everyone that thought this was an easy win forgets every game against the fins is a grudge match since the dawn of these two teams.
You could make that argument last week against the Saints...but an elite team should have beat the Dolphins last night. The Jets are not the elite team we were fooled (yet again) into thinking they were.
Why were we supposed to beat a good team on the road? We weren't a 10 pt favorite, we are supposed to beat Buf next week.
Maybe you were, but the Jets are not an elite team. They got destroyed by the Saints and lost a close game to a division rival. We're playing a rookie at QB. If anyone actually believes we're going deep into the post season, I really need to buy some of the shit you guys are smoking.
Ryan was totally embarased. He said "I used to see all those gimmicks when I was coaching back in college," Ryan said. "I've been a part of some bad performances before on defense, just not this bad." You still want to fuckin argue that this wasn't the same old Jets?
its funny - this game reminded me of a few games back in the days of marino and even before with strock/woodley..... aside from the 81 game and the 86 game - you just knew the dolphins would come back and beat the jets late in any game..... it happened with nathan, duper i think a couple times and fryar maybe. last nite had a very similar feel..... oh the players change, coaches change, owners change but the fish still come back to crush the jets.... had to throw that in there for the thread jil
I really think if it was the same old Jets defense Miami would have beaten us 37 - 10 and they would have put 350 yards rushing on the board and Henne would have hardly had to throw a pass. I really think one of the telling factors in the game was that Miami has several sustained drives that ate up a lot of clock and this took a lot out of our D. The D played very hard and I really don't have much of a problem with it, but they did spend a lot of time on the field.
We have dominatedvMiami for over a decade and we gave it to Miami just as they gave it to us in those days. Yeah we had the Duper catch in '85 but we also had the shootout win in '86.
We also must not forget the Monday Night Miracle. If something like that happened to us where we are as a team right now, that would really be something to cry about.
"At the end I thought about using timeouts, but I said, 'You know what? They're not scoring,' " Ryan said. "But I was wrong." What a genius, why would you want time at the end of the game just in case they scored? Seems like the same old dumb Jet coach.
You've been around here long enough to know this is BS. You want a list? Here: 1997: 8-4 record; lose 3 of last 4 (including a must win at Detroit...HB pass INT) - No playoffs 2000: 9-4 record; lose final 3 (including 10-7 home loss to Detroit and a X-Mas Eve Interceptaverde-fest in Baltimore) - No playoffs 2001: 9-5 record; lose to Buffalo at home before a miracle 50 yd FG agaist Oakland puts us in the playoffs (which we lose in the first round) 2004: 10-4 record; lose the final 2 to back into the playoffs; Herm plays not to lose in Pittsburgh setting Brien up for too long of a FG 2008: 8-3 record (talk of the NFL); lose 4 of the last 5 (including a horrific loss to the Seahawks; and should have lost the Buffalo) - no playoffs Yes, there have been some good moments, but until this team puts inferior teams away on a consistent basis and wins clutch games regularly (ala the Pats and Steelers), don't tell me SOJ are dead.
Sadly, this game did have an SOJ feel to it. Somehow, after allowing Miami to score on their first possession (inexplicably after chosing to kick instead of receive), I just knew this game wasn't going to end well for the Jets. I think Ryan is still on a learning curve as a HC as well as Sanchez is at QB. He left 2 TO's on the table and became waay to predictable in his playcalling on defense. The only thing different about last night's game was that the Refs finally gave US some calls. They kept the Jets in the game as much as the gimmick plays by ST's. This team may not be the SOJ's, but they had better get their collective heads out of the glam section and back on the field. Their beginning to believe the hype and that ain't good. The last thing we need is our "D" standing for Divas instead of Defense..
1997 we were 1-15 the year befroe. 2001 we went on the road to beat Oakland for the first time since we became the Jets. How is that SOJ? 2004 we made the div rd. There's no such thing as backing into the playoffs. It's funny on one hand you bash us for winning at Oak to get into the playoffs in '01 then you bash us for not winning and getting into the playoffs. We won the games we needed to win and earned our way inthen neat a 12 win team on the road in the playoffs. 2008 and 2000 we collapsed. It happens. SOJ was when we weren't even playoff contenders. from 1987-1996 we made ONE playoff app and we were 8-8 the year we made it.
Best part was that the Defense was getting completely dominated all game and on that drive as well. How could he think that they wouldn't score?
As I mentioned in another thread, your definition of SOJ (which is the wrong one) and mine aren't the same. SOJ get your hopes up only to find ways to lose in heartbreaking fashion. I'm not getting into an argument with the "Most Argumentative Poster", as I've been around the block with you before. I'm going to just argue with my office wall....at least there is a better prospect it will see things my way. And for what it is worth, I'm not bashing the Oak win, that was good....but unnecessary, as they should have won the previous week.
That happens to MOST teams. The same could have been said about the Ginats until 2 years ago, the same could have been said about Pitt until 2005. We act like we are the only team to lose heartbreaking games or collapse down the stretch of a season.
