One of the beat guys tweeted this morning that we are ranked first in special teams for the season. And someone else did an analysis of the punter and he’s ranked the best punter in terms of yardage and net yards. And Folk has yet to miss either an extra point or a field goal. Some of this is individual talent but some of it is absolutely coaching. You don’t have good returns without 10 other guys nailing all of their assignments. And someone had to scout McNamara. slowly but surely we are seeing signs of an actual NFL franchise everywhere other than under center, unfortunately.
What I said actually made a lot of sense, it's the challenge that you made though was a bit obtuse. You've now clarified the issue, because I could not understand why you keep rambling on and on, when I already said we can be fans how we want. And your clarification is even more ridiculous than I thought. You pointed out that OT and Tipp played well, and this is relevant for 2026. I already know we got OTs, Tipp, coming back, etc... You then said returners were good. Dah, they played very well before too, I know I want them back. Breece played well - hello? Have you forgotten I was the one banging the drum about not trading and tagging him for next season well before this game? You learned the things this Sunday I already knew and have been talking about for some time. Good for you. That does not mean I don't care about these things as you disingenuously tried to portray. I just already know them. And yes when we win on miraculous ST plays that has never happened in Jets history before while the offense has 40 yards passing and brutal to watch, in a lost season, which knocks our pick back from 1 to 5, I am not jumping from joy. You can have a different view and we can disagree on that, but for some reason you keep harping on this. My position should be clear to a reasonable person at this point, if you still don't accept it, it's time for you to fuck off now on that one.
I have to agree with this. There has to be a way we can evaluate the rest of the team. It's simply not going to happen with Fields under center. Period.
Well as we continue to suck, this will always be the discussion…win more games to show progress and start turning around the culture vs. lose more games for better draft position. Personally, I’m trying to take the win/win point of view…so yeah, while I am ok with losses helping our draft position, which just dropped to 5th overall now after our win (though still many games to go), after SO much losing, it’s hard for me to get upset at a victory, and for sure as I’m watching the games I’m hoping we win. So I guess my view is I hope for a win, and then if we lose, it’s like ok, well at least we have a better draft pick than we did yesterday. Kind of silly way to look at it I guess. But I do think at some point we have to start winning games…and so while having a better draft pick is always better, we do have 5 first rounders in the next two drafts so we have enough ammunition to go get a guy if that’s something we want to do. I also don’t know how to think about the impact on AG…I will say that part of me wouldn’t mind the losses piling up if it meant that Woody gets fed up and fires AG and goes get an offensive guy (though I’m almost sure Woody would fuck up the next hire too), but then if AG manages to get a bunch of wins then maybe the learning curve is working…who the fuck knows? Fucking life of a Jets fan…
A good friend of mine and I have this discussion every year at this point. He wants us to lose out already. I have a hard time ever rooting for that on a week to week basis especially in year one of a new coaching regime that I want to see transform the locker room. On the flip side, the team who secures the top pick can probably turn it around for a bunch if they want depending on how great the Mendoza legend grows especially if he performs well in the CFB Playoffs. I also don’t think there’s any amount of losses this year that gets Glenn fired either. He’s reportedly making $12 million/year which is probably top 15ish in the league. Woody isn’t paying him $48 million to coach elsewhere.
https://x.com/RichCimini/status/1987914189638107524 "Glenn said he was "happy" that Fields forced the ball downfield on that play. He credited the Browns' coverage scheme, but he also liked Fields' aggressiveness" I am beginning to think Tyrod may be starting on Thursday. I have watched all 22 of this play. There is no way any professional coach can be happy here. It's not aggressiveness, he stares at GW all the way, does not see a safety and just throws the ball directly into safety's hands. This is not like is he is pressured, sees one on one and gives his guy a chance, kinda what Taylor did before. This was different, and AG has to know there is nothing to like about this play. So, either AG is a complete dumb ass or he is purposely saying that to make everyone believe he is starting Justin when he is actually planning something else. I really hope it is the later. I guess he could be protecting the player too, but this appears to be an odd way of doing it.
of course he's protecting the player. You don't throw the guy under the bus in public. if he really believes in what he said, he is even more stupid than everyone thinks. but they have no reason to go off fields, given taylor plays no part in their plans. fields might not either, but I think they are hoping some kind of light bulb goes off. I think they see this as a win/win. If fields continues to be awful, they are justified in going after a QB in the draft, even if he sits for a year behind some stop gap. If Fields becomes average in remaining games, they have their stop gap. And unless Fields suddenly dons a red cape, they know they have to draft a QB. Why else compile all those picks. The brain trust chose Fields this season (not sure who else they could have turned to...young guy who just might have superior ability (HAHA), might as well sign him for relatively cheap short term deal), they know they are responsible for the QB situation. Can they learn from this experience in trying to find a guy who can be THE GUY? There is a potential silver lining here. They should have great insight into why Fields fails. They have plenty of time to try and identify some QB that has the traits Fields does not. If they are smart they will use Fields as a terrific learning moment. If they are smart. Therein lies the rub. Alas poor AG, we knew him well.
