At this point, Orton is a more safe option than Vick is. Not to mention the Bills are much more talented offensively
Oh my god the jelousy I am experiencing! Kyle Orton last seen doing his best Romo impression throwing an interception. Quick, who can I murder to get me some of that.
I didnt even realize Manuel was playing this bad, he has a lower QB than Smith.....and this guy has weapons to. He straight up sucks then.... Hopefully the Jets follow suit and pull Geno.
I'm hoping this makes Rex and Co. think about benching Geno now. The excitement for Sunday would be amazing if Vick were starting!!!!
The excitement will be grand until you realize Kyle Wilson will cover Eddie Royal in the slot, Darrin Walls will have to stop Malcolm Floyd and Dee Milliner gets welcomed back by facing Keenan Allen. And if Pryor plays, say hello to Antonio Gates. Boy that's exciting. Eric Weddle will bait either one of the QBs into a turnover, maybe pick six.
He is being benched for "right now" not that they are giving up on him completely. Bills are in win now mode, they have a playoff roster but for the QB position. Orton gives them the best chance to win right now. Manuel can sit and learn for now (like he was supposed to do, but never had the chance due to Kolb's career ending injury).
Ryan is too stubborn and loyal to make the right move here. A guy who has a proven track record of mismanaging a Qb situation as he did with Sanchez is repeating the same sort of mistake with Smith. Coddling a poor performer, no accountability, identifying a hope for improvement as a prediction of same, it's all very tiresome and even boring at this point. Buffalo shows what the right move here is, but it says here Ryan is not going to do anything different than he would do on his own. That' doesnt mean he never changes Smith out. But I don't see Buffalo's move here as being a factor in Ryan's decision making. Too bad.
Bills coach benched the first round pick and didn't give a flying fuck who cares. Obviously the decision to bench Geno for Vick is not completely Rex's decision. It's Marty and Idzik also.
Let's all remember that the Bills FO are making these decisions to save their jobs. They traded up for Sammy Watkins b/c they need to win now or else get fired, and they're benching their young Qb b/c they need to win now or else get fired. I think the Jets are in a slightly better position b/c we don't need to win now since Idzik is planning for 2015-16 and clearly won't get fired this year. With 20 million off the books, we're clearly not in a "Win now" mode so we don't need to necessarily play as if we're trying to win the super bowl this year. That being said, if Geno continues to suck then I can understand the continued calls to start Vick.... I'm just trying to point out that the Jets and Bills are at different points largely due to the pressure that is on the Bills' GM and head coach.
There's some truth to what you said regarding the FO trying to save face. But IMO, the driving force behind this are the Bills' team captains. They feel Manuel isn't ready yet and that this team is too loaded with talent on offense to waste an opportunity to make the playoffs. That's where the win now thing is coming from, players are tired of busting ass with nothing to show for it year in and year out.
Why aren't we in win now mode tho? We are basically 3 players away from being a playoff team. A WR, a CB, and a QB.
Agreed, but being a playoff team is different than being the next dominant, sustainable AFC East franchise. That's where Idzik is trying to take us; he wants us to replace the Patriots and though he may fail (and much will go wrong before it goes right), our team is simply not in the same mindset that the Bills FO has to be. Woody won't be firing Idzik after this year even if we go 5-11. He has at least another year if not 2. That's where we have time to develop our drafted players, spend our $ wisely, and build toward a sustainable future. At this point, the Bills don't have the luxary.
