Not that I am telling you guys anything that you didn't know, but the oddsmakers take things in to account that very few people even know. For instance last week the Jets are only favored by 3 against a team that they have dominated for the past 10 years. The Jets are obviously much improved. I thought the correct line would be Jets -7 or so. But then I heard a stat that the last 7 or 8 teams that finished 1-15 won their first game the following season. Those kind of semi obscure trends matter. Point being I am sure there is plenty of data of first time NFL non rookie starters playing a division game on the road...a game in which the other team has their home opener. The teams in those situations win maybe 10% of the time. Vegas is probably trying to sucker people into betting on the Pats knowing there is a slim chance they'll even keep this game close. Jets 27-10
Well, the Pat's also happen to be playing a seriously motivated team... Stop it with the 'what if's'. If the Pat's were playing any other team in the league other than KC they would be 0-1 right now. Goes both ways...
I still don't understand why Pats fans call the Jets or Mangini "rat". Belichick cheated - he gave his team an unfair advantage by violating NFL rules and spying on the Jets and other teams. Security personnel caught a member of the Patriots organization actively violating these rules and, as a result, the NFL punished the Pats. Where in this entire scenario is Mangini or anyone else on the Jets acting like a rat? It's amazing to me how, despite Belichick being caught red-handed cheating, Pats fans have the audacity to spin it into the Jets or Mangini somehow being the bad guy. Could someone explain this to me?
Quit trying to find logic, reason or fact in Boston-based sports opinion or politics or any politics up there for that matter. There's definitely been something in the water for many, many years.
the size of the point spread is determined by the betting public. there needs to be equal money on both teams. the spread encourages betters to bet on who they perceive to be the 'weaker team', which in this case is the pats.
interesting argument--certainly explains prices in open markets but I'm not sure that sports betting can be considered an open market. It's certainly not regulated as such.
Chuck Noll has a losing record without Bradshaw, big shit. Mangini has a losing record period. Though he is undefeated with Favre.
Here we've got Bodog claiming the line was going to be Pats by 9. According to that the line moved 12 points in 10 seconds.
guess it's time to hedge a bet. with my luck, be thankful i'm taking the pats. it's an automatic win for us (one i'l be happy to have to).
So Vegas is not so confident in the Jets winning this game. Can't say I blame them, but I think we have a good shot.
Because the Jets were caught red-handed by the Patriots doing the exact same thing at the end of the previous season. Mangini even admitted it in a press conference. If there's any fans that ought to STFU about the Pats cheating, it's you guys. Mangini was neck deep in the same game that Belichick was playing. Without doubt he had tapes too. And it took serious balls to turn in the guy who gave him his coaching career, took him in off the street, mentored him, promoted him, taught him everything he knew. On top of that, Mangini tried to recruit players off the Pats before he even left NE, and then illegally contacted Deion Branch which screwed that all up for NE. Very unethical right down the line. That's why Mangini's the Rat in NE. BB's a freakin saint compared to Mangini.
You cannot compare apples to oranges as Mangini did not get caught cheating. Bellyshit on the other hand is lookin at a long season if his team can't get it done. I would say things would be just if your pats have a bad season.
