You do understand that cutting Milliner accelerates his bonus and would be a negative 1.6 million on the cap?
Cutting Cumberland, Folk,( Pace or Babin ) and (Allen or Jarrett) creates about 7.5 million so we do have room to manipulate things if we need to. Some big ifs as we don't have another kicker but just thrown it out there
A stud o-line is the first thing a FA QB looks for when deciding where to go. P. Manning will be cut after this season, so start planning now!
Just because he won't block for our next QB he is worth having now to improve the line for our current QB? I don't see how the former should dictate the latter.
Spending money on an aging vet to protect no quarterback doesn't seem as important to me than finding a future player with youth while locking up existing talent at other positions
Cutting all but babin wouldn't make sense to me. We've seen what an unreliable kicker can do to a season, let's not go there again. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
The Jets likely have a good idea at this point whether there is any hope with all of the young offensive lineman currently stinking up the depth chart.
I don't know about that. We are 3 minicamp practices into a new regime. I think they don't know at all, which is indicative of the # of people competing to start. The Jets at this point haven't a clue who is best at RG, and it's a pretty good reason alone to bring in Mathis.
All I'm saying is after the limited time spent together, if they looked at the bunch and thought "holy hell these guys suck" you can guarantee they'd be on the phone with Mathis in a heartbeat. Maybe they don't feel that way though.
whos to say they haven't? also, Mathis and his agent have stated they are going to be patient with signing somewhere and aren't in a rush. Wouldn't shock me to see it happen halfway thru TC...He's a vet who prob wouldn't mind not attending a full camp.
I don't know what they've done. Whether or not the Jets pursue him seriously will be very telling about the state of our oline.
I'm not sure if Mac wants to commit those kind of bucks for an O-lineman. Plus as we've all discussed there isn't that much money left. The last time we paid a lot for one was Alan Fanaca. And he never really lived up to that contract. A lot of teams won't draft them high or overspend at those positions.
I think it's a matter of, our RG situation is young and raw and Mathis is a massive upgrade and immediately one of our best O lineman. Ideally to me, we sign Mathis and let the best young guy develop behind him for a year or two.
What?! Faneca was the cornerstone for the our league best offensive line and top flight running game in 2008 and 2009. People really undervalue a top of the line guard. It really makes the center and tackle to that side that much better if you have a technician in between. I'd cut Cumberland, Walls, Babin, Brian Winters and any other garbage we have at the bottom of the roster to make this move. He's 34, yet if you get two good years out of him it's a good move.
