we have a guard problem, sort of, since none of them are really pulling ahead of the pack. he is by most accounts one of the top guards in the game, and based on some stats, hes THE best over the last few years. SIGN THIS BEAST
09 and 10 faneca was pretty damn solid for us imo. even just from a leadership standpoint, getting a veteran guard whos not washed up (sorry willlie but youre on your last legs) and can help mentor guys like aboushi, winters, and dozier is a very solid pickup for this team right now.
Wondering if Mo would look at the Jets signing a contract hold out with an even more jaundiced eye - also, not convinced that throwing multi-year big money at a guy who turns 34 midway through the upcoming season is a good idea either. I'd error on the side of caution and pass..
Faneca was not on the team after 09. The starting guards in '10 were Moore and good old Matt Slauson. He was on the team when the offensive line was beastly though.
my mistake. i thought that change came in 2011. doesnt change the role he would play tho, he would be the veteran mentor/leader of the guards, and instantly fill the starting role
how do you know it will be big money? could be signing bonus heavy and short term. Mathis would be a 200% upgrade at RG for us.
exactly. as long as its structured correctly we can fit him in and it shouldnt affect the mo situation. also joe, he might be older, but hes still one of the top guards in the game. and we wouldnt be throwing him a multi year deal. if we did, it would be all fluff on the back end so he could be cut with minimal cap hit (at least i trust in mikey macc to structure it that way)
