I don't know who you are but I thank you for being one of my fans. having a chance to win 2 AFC titles is called doing jack. it's not amazing to those that understand the position, understand the game and can separate their emotions from reality. Mark was very good under Rex when he had talent around him. Rex is not the GM. the quote was meant to be in my lifetime. Joe had a good year or 2 and the D won us a SB but that was before I was alive.
Rex took a less talented team than Mangini had and coached them to an AFC Conference title game twice. Manigini had a first place team who collapsed on both sides of the ball in December. The talent level for the Jets decreased every year since he started. He is responsible for a lot of this mess but everybody else you listed had a large part as well.
Honestly, it's really a stretch to blame Mangini for the 2008 collapse. Favre was hurt and Jenkins was worn down. Since Pouha wasn't really that good at the time, there wasn't much a hc could do.
Favre was fine, the man made his entire career playing through pain. he doesn't get an injury excuse. Mangini allowed Favre to sabotage our season.
Ftr I predicted in the off season that the vets would eventually complain about going with Smith. I agree there is merit to saying THEY have not played well, either, and are part of the problem. But that's not the point. The point is you can't take a whole season to "develop" your Qb and not go with supporting a proven vet at Qb and expect the players to just accept having one of their few remaining seasons in a short playing career go down the toilet. It's completely understandable, and more here should have seen it coming.
The same argument could be made that the worst thing that ever happened to this franchise was us lucking our way into the playoffs 0ne year (you know..the year Rex said we were out of it only to go to the AFC championship) and Payton Manning being pulled the year they were going undefeated and allowing us to make the playoffs. That was the worst thing that every happened to this franchise and allowed us to watch an offense go from decent to one of the worst offenses ever in NFL history. It masked his inability to learn...understand...give a shit...pick the proper OC...anything to do with the offense. And just out of curiosity, you love to put Sanchez on your shoulders...who the fuck do you blame for that? Lets say you are correct that Sanchex might still be a decent qb....are you not being a hypocrite backing both guys? Didnt Sanchez suck because he was a qb under Rex? Every year he got worse and worse...came out of college with confidence and had a decent first 2 years only to go down hill and eventually was mauled in a meaningless preseason game because your "best thing to every happen to this franchise" put him into a preseason game late and he got hurt. No?
Arguably, he went with a team that was already in place. Now if you take roster turnover into account and just drop years 3 and 4. You have last year and this year where the team has gotten worse. The GM's have largely given him what he wants with a multitude of defensive picks during his tenure and he still hasn't managed to get it done. I know you are still a stanch supporter of Sanchez. The fact the guy looks halfway decent is Philly is an indictment on Rex and "his" staff not getting it done. I don't think Rex is stupid and I believe he could be a complete HC at some point. The problem is that Rex needs to be demoted to DC again. He needs time to think about the silly shit he continues to do (12 men on the field/timeouts/etc) and maybe go learn a little more about the offensive side of the ball so he can say to his OC , "ya know this is working don't go away from it" or figure out the wildcat is dead. I don't think he's a punk like Bradway and I highly doubt he'll take a demotion to DC. So, he has to go and finish growing up into a complete HC.
There's a logical gap in your reasoning. Favre making a career out of playing through pain doesn't imply that an injury can debilitate him. In fact, your reasoning, would imply that Favre wouldn't sit out after tearing his bicep...which happened. I'm curious though, why do you think that Mangini allowed Favre to sabotage our season?
you don't luck your way in, you either win enough to qualify or you don't and we did. Sanchez didn't get worse every year, he had one bad year when he had no talent around him. Rex isn't the GM. how many title games did they make w/ Brett Favre w/ that team that was already in place? his issue wasn't injury it was that he was making the same mistakes late in the yar that he was early in the year- he didn't want to be here. he allowed it b/c he hopped on Favre's back hoping he could do what he had never done before and that's carry a team to a SB.
Farve was only here for a season who's to say what would have happened in 09/10. Farve was only here for a season. Who know what he would have don in 09/10. Furthermore the issue with Farve making the same mistakes late in the year can be attributed to Rex Ryan and his tenure here. He's making the same mistake today that he made in year 1,2,3,4 and 5. I guess he doesn't want to be here either.
Well, Vick played better in that one half than Geno played all year. The bottom line is that Vick should have been given the starting job on the day he arrived here. That failure alone is reason enough to fire Idzik and Ryan both.
we weren't winning w/ either. the O has been marginally better w/ Vick. Vick has looked like he has no interest in playing half the time he has been out there.
Oh yeah him too. Although he probably falls on the second list with Santonio, Wayne Hunter, Shonn, Plaxico, Brandon Moore (because, you know, buttfumble), ...
You never luck your way in? Im testing my new maturity at this late stage in life and not going there..nor will I go with responding that Sanchez had only 1 bad year.....BUT... Under Rex Ryan....Sanchez went from a bright eyed rookie with little fear..to a little girl spending time behind Brandon Moores ass. There is no other way to describe what happened to that kid..and under a REAL NFL coach...he has shown the ability to be a middle of the road QB..and good for him. No offensive player deserves to play for Rex Ryan as a HC...not one.
That had everything to do w/ the talent eroding around him and last I checked Rex is not the GM. he was a top 10 QB for us in 2010 and is playing like one again in Philly. he's leading his O to over 30 PPG in 5 games.
