Shaun wants to play on a good team - the Jets are a very good team. Rex's brother coached Shaun so Rex will get the lowdown on him. I think he's there for the taking if the Jets want him. This is set up perfectly. We will see. Rex could be eating dinner with him right now at a Sizzler somewhere.

as we have already seen with jenkins, what good does it do for us to have a guy who spends most of his time on the unavailable lists?

If it were between just those two, I think you're right. The Cowboys have bigger needs than a defensive lineman. Certainly the Jets could use him. I think he'd be a good fit here. Rex can get him fired up to play hard.

I think there will be other teams interested though. Apparently the Redskins are interested. I'm sure their fans will be excited to have another "lazy" lineman to replace the one the are getting rid of. I've just got a feeling someone will be willing to throw him more cash than the Jets are willing to invest. Maybe I'm wrong, it happens a lot.:lol:

The skins could probably offer plenty more considering that's their M.O. and they are good at overpriced underachieving FAs.

But if Rogers wants to be happy, he's got a small list and they won't be offering much.

Redskins among many pursuing Rogers; DL in no rush

Defensive lineman Shaun Rogers will meet with the Washington Redskins on Friday, but will not sign with an NFL team this week, according to a league source.

The three-time Pro Bowler, known as "Big Baby," was released by the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, but is in no rush to sign with another suitor.

Upwards of a third of the league has contacted the defensive lineman, and Rogers will assess the situation over the weekend and then decide if he wants to take more visits, or begin negotiations with one or more teams.

The 10-year pro, is in a unique position in that he is a true free agent -- by virtue of being released -- at a time when most player movement via free agency or trade is being held up until there is a new collective bargaining agreement in place.

Veterans with four or more years of service, released before the current collective bargaining agreement expires March 3, are eligible to sign with another team.

Rogers is a versatile lineman who could play tackle in a 4-3 alignment or end/tackle in the 3-4. The Redskins are searching for help along the defensive line following Albert Haynesworth's troubled campaign last season.

Redskins general manager Bruce Allen told The Washington Post in January that the team would consider bringing Haynesworth back after suspending him for the final four games of the season.

Shaun Rogers’ agent responds to Tom Heckert

Browns G.M. Tom Heckert recently stepped out of character and took a shot at recently-cut defensive lineman Shaun Rogers.

Heckert called Rogers a “different cat,” and Heckert explained that a career of losing with the Lions and Browns possibly has taken a toll on the veteran lineman, who has excelled both in the 4-3 and 3-4 fronts.

“I think if he went to a good team, things might change. I don’t know,” Heckert said.

Rogers’ agent, Kennard McGuire, has responded.

“I would defend my client as Mr. Heckert would defend the Browns,” McGuire said in a telephone interview with PFT. “I am disappointed that he felt the need to state certain thoughts about Shaun after he was released, and I’m not sure what the statement ‘different cat’ really means. I’m also not sure Mr. Heckert and Shaun ever really conversed, and I’m not sure about the trade or release, because we were told that the Browns did not want to trade Shaun when they had opportunities to do so. As far as not being able to release him, we all know that the Browns could have released him at any time.”

As to the notion that Rogers is frustrated by playing for teams that have struggled, McGuire was candid. “When you’re a competitor, I truly understand how losing affects you,” McGuire said. “I don’t know many that want to become accustomed to losing.”

Rogers has 10 years in the league, and he’s never been to the postseason. We’ve got a feeling that he’ll land with a team that has been to the postseason a time or two in the past decade, and that will be favored to return in 2011.

Rogers is expected to sign a new contract before March 4, when a lockout likely will begin absent a new labor deal. He visited the Redskins on Friday, one day after being cut.

Well it would have been nice for the right price, but no way we get in a bidding war for a guy of questionable work ethic and long teeth.
