Jets will eventually speak with Evans, it's only the Combine, Jets can bring in about 30 for visits at Floram Park. Also, almost every Team speaks with every player at the Combine.
Also worth noting Cam Cameron utilized a pro-style offense in which both Landry and Beckham excelled. I'm not sure Landry makes it past our pick in the 2nd though...
Landry in the second would be fuckin awesome. I don't think he will be there for us, but damn a guy like Watkins or Ebron in the first with Landry in the second? Holy hell haha
I would be happy with Lee just because I don't think there is a chance that we get Evans or Watkins. I'm also intrigued by cooks.
Cooks ran a 4.3 twice today at the Combine. TWICE. Just like Tavon Austin's stock last year, he's gonna rise to a top 10 pick. No way he falls to us anymore
This WR class looks to be all time impressive Cooks looks like Austin from last year and may sneak into the top 16. Watkins is elite not Calvin Johnson or AJ Green elite but literally the next step down. Evans and Beckham Jr. had great all around performances this weekend. Matthews shocked me with that 40, i really didn't see that coming. 2 WRs in this draft Idzik PLEASE!!!
If Bortles needs a year of seasoning before he's ready to go then drafting him behind Geno kind of makes sense. Either Geno runs with it next year, like Drew Brees after Philip Rivers was drafted, or Bortles takes over at some point before 2015 and he has some experience as the Jet's window opens up. I suspect the Jets were just doing due diligence on Bortles in case he's the BPA on 18. Better to take him there and a WR in the 2nd than to use the 18 on a 2nd-round caliber WR because that's the need.
I don't know what guys see in Benjamin, just does not pop like some of the other guys do. JMO I guess the biggest question is which one of these guys fits the jets offensive scheme the best?
The problem with Benjamin is that he's another project if you want to project him as a #1 WR. He just doesn't have that ability at this point in his career. He's going to have to find a way to significantly raise his level of play just to adequately meet the responsibilities of a #1 WR. As a #2/#3 type guy he doesn't have to raise the bar that much. If he was catching 50 balls a year for 800 yards and 7 or 8 TD's the Jets would be jumping for joy with that as the #2 or #3. It's getting to the 80 catches that a #1 has to be able to bring down and the 95 you'd really like out of him that is going to be a very hard path for Benjamin to follow.
He has all the tools. It's hard to expect any rookie to be a 80 catch #1 in his first year. If he was drafted to the Jets he would easily be our best WO and Kerley our go to guy in the slot.
The problem with projecting Benjamin as an 80 catch guy in the NFL is that he has to be a much better player than he was at FSU in order to get to the 80 catches. That just doesn't happen very often. OTOH if you project Brandin Cooks to be an 80 catch guy, well that's easy to do because he caught 67 balls in 2012 and 128 in 2013. Clearly the role of reliable pass catcher is not beyond his current skill set without projections. Neither of those guys is likely to catch anything like 80 balls in their rookie season but it's not unreasonable to expect Cooks to be north of 67 in year 2. With Benjamin you just have no idea if he's going to be able to make the leap from field-stretching #2 to all-around #1. It's more likely that his career in the NFL is going to mirror what he did in college minus a little bit.
agree - the best thing for benj is to be drafted by a team that already has a bonafide #1 WR - let him shake off the rust as a #2 or even #3. c how that evovles this year. if he is drafted and expected to compete for a #1 job there will be likely problems. also wouldn't be shocked to see him get some snaps at TE on certain downs.
