If we are drafting a QB and have one in mind that we must have, we can't trade. If they are fine with multiple options, trading down one spot makes sense. If we aren't drafting a QB, trade down and fleece some idiot.
not if you think next years guy is better. watson and mahomes were both drafted outside of the top 9. josh allen was the 3rd QB taken and lamaar jackson the 4th with the 32nd pick. If JD thinks howell is better then he'd get with fields or wilson he could opt to. would you rather have tim couch at 1 or mahomes at 10? there is no 1 right answer to the draft
You guys aren't wrong, which is why, if you aren't taking the QB now, you have to continue to build up assets for when the time comes to take the QB. The Browns traded down/out of the draft multiple times before Baker. The Bills built up a major stash of picks so that when the time came they didn't have to sell it all for Allen. Even after trading for Allen (without using any future picks), the Bills still had picks 22, 65, 96 and 121 in that draft. By comparison, after trading for Darnold, the Jets had picks 72 and 107 and were without the next year's 2019 2nd rounder. Long story short, if you are not sold enough on Fields/Wilson, that's fine, but you really need to come out of the draft with an extra 2022 1st rounder or Sewell better be Orlando Pace.
I agree that Douglas may trade back for reasons you wrote. I think he should do that because the #2 overall pick has so much value this year. I know my approach is not popular, but thx to MacCagnan the jets current roster is littered with undrafted free agents and low round picks cut from other teams. We need talent and a lot of it to help the new coach. The new coach cannot make a nuclear bomb without some plutonium.
There is no way anyone would trade for Wentz's contract, so, as you write, the Eagles might cut him and eat that contract. If the jets move Sam and draft a high round QB, I hope the jets consider scooping up Wentz as a bridge QB to Fields, Wilson or especially Lance, since both Wentz and Lance attended North Dakota State.
Yeah they could but A. What team is taking that contract? B. They still have Hurts. I see them bringing someone in if they move Wentz but drafting a QB rd 1? I'm willing to bet on that one.
taking Sewell sounds nice, but i cant see it happening.. it becomes an issue when him and Becton need to get paid, and 1 of them will be a RT but will want, and deservedly so (at least if they both pan out as expected) LT $. Sure u can in theory pay both, but that would be way too much $ invested in tackle.
i get your point, but the fact still remains nobody had more success than them in that time than the Pats, so its hard to look at what they did in a negative way. I also think a big part of their problem was the contract they gave Flacco, but they were in a tough spot. Prior to that, one of the reasons they were deep and solid is becuse they werent paying a QB. I find it hard to believe that even of they drafted a “top qb”, they would have been able to have the surrounding roster with it, after his rookie deal was up.
