Amen. If we're taking a OT in the first round, it better be a later pick, and it better be a natural RT.

I can see your argument, Ellis, but I still believe if you have a shot at a guy like Ferguson, you take it. You don't pass up talent like that because you might have a guy who might be decent enough at the position.

However, if there is another player there who can provide value at the pick that fills a bigger need, that is obviously the way to go. Thing is, I don't know that anyone else would supply the same value at that spot that will fill a position of need. A trade down would work there, but if they cannot find anyone willing to pay up for the spot, and nobody on the board will provide more value to position of need, then the pick has to be Ferguson.

Totally true. I think the only reason they're negotiating with Chad is to lessen the cap hit--I don't think anyone (including Chad) really believes his arm will ever be what it was, and it wasn't that much to begin with--his skills are intellect and determination.

I am pretty sure the Jets will restructure Chad, draft a QB in the 2nd and sign a veteran. That way they hedge their bets.......

If we can trade down and still take D'brick....I would be very pleased

Let me explain my logic for creating this post. Mangini and Co are not just thinking about this year, it is a long term reconstruction project. Believe it or not if Pennington is still on the roster he may actually win bak his starting job, if not at the begining of the season, at some point. If this happens and you drafted a first round QB you now have a huge dilema on your hands; your paying your backup starter money and Pennington will rightfully demand a new contract. If however you draft a guy in a later round, it is no big deal if he becomes a permanent backup. If you draft that guy and he doesn't look like a starter and Pennington sucks, you draft a QB in the first round next year.

Why do I think it may be Hawk. He is not just a OLB, he is a 250 lb athlete that has good football instincts that runs a 4.52 40. What do you think Bellicheck would do with a guy like that? Probably the same thing Mangini will..Hawk he will be all over the field on D and possibly on O. Herm is gone..Mangini's here..start thinking way outside of the box!
