I'm sort of in this boat also. If the Jets had Chip Kelly coaching then Marcus Mariotta would be a no-brainer but I don't know if you slot him into an NFL offense in the northeast and get much out of him. The Jets can't flunk another 1st round QB pick at this point. If they do take Mariotta then they have to have a veteran who will definitely play for them next season. Either that or kidnap Chip Kelly, do radical plastic surgery on him and convince him he's Elmo Throckmorton from North Dakota. Edit: well, the NY media would have a field day with no-name coach from North Dakota but still...
Bingo and this guy is beating up on college defenses that barely have time to prepare, with coaches and players that only see this offense only one time the entire year. I'm sorry but mariotta is not the guy, it's much different going up against nfl defenses that have time to prepare compared to college defenses that are using players that are students and are not fully invested in stopping the Oregon offense. I believe it would be a huge mistake to take mariotta. I know the jets don't have many other options but you can't just draft a qb for the sake of drafting one. I would take the wisecond receiver over the Mariotta....
Yeah Im just so tired of seeing a rookie at QB. Maybe Mariota and/or Winston become franchise QB's. I just hope the Jets arent willing to take yet another chance on that being the case. Even if they hire a coach that could develop one. After seeing subpar QB play the last 6 seasons I just want a little above average play. And Cutler would bring that. If we do get Harbaugh though him and Cutler together could be a recipe for disaster. So who really knows.
It is a good question about Geno having a roster spot in 2015 or not. Really comes down to what the new GM and new Coaching Staff wants to do. I would have no problem drafting a QB, signing a Vet and keeping Geno as the #2 or #3. Just depends how they feel I guess. No doubt he is terrible and would not be missed if cut, but is cheap enough to hold on to. Tough call.
It's really irrelevant. The guy is just an average backup. That is all he is. No matter who our backup is they won't be able to save the jets.
draft a qb, sign a qb and shoot geno. anyone who wants as a qb on this team no matter the salary has allot to learn about football. This dude is just horrid, a good back up qb has a skill Geno does not, the ability to NOT turn over the football and manage games. Geno is the living turnover
Did Alex Smith turn the ball over or make dumb plays like Geno? High turnovers should be a dealbreaker when considering a QB.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! We bide our time to get our QB AND we dump Geno's ass. That is the way forward.
Our fan base is one of the stupidest fuckin groups some times. We are all in absolute hell with the way this franchise has been going. We haven't had a competent QB in what feels like forever. All of you, including myself, bitch and moan about how pathetic our situation is, which in a large part, is due to us never having a good QB. Our fan base even spends all kinds of money to a group that puts a "Fire Idzik" billboard up just to get our point across. Our fan base is absolutely fed up with the same shit. Yet here some of you are wanting to skip on a potential franchise QB in the top 5 picks and keep Geno Fuckin Smith? Lmfao!! Free agent? Please. There is no free agent out there worth shit next year. Let's just ignore the two HUGE talents at QB in the draft and deal with another free agent nobody or Geno Smith. Jesus Christ.
I feel the same way every time I read a Jets fans mock offseason ,there's always one or two changes to a mediocre pathetic roster. It never makes sense to me,Some people just don't get it
So glad these people aren't calling the shots haha Draft Cooper, he'll save our season. Keep Geno and sign a free agent QB, that's the answer to all of our problems. How could I have missed this all along?! It was right in front of me!!!
I don't trade the ranch for Mariota. If he falls to the Jets maybe select He was horrible as I recall for his first two years.
Keep Geno for the wildcat! But seriously, we have to address the QB situation. If not the top two QB's in the draft, we should look at who may be available in the latter rounds that has potential and can run an NFL offense. I like Winston, but I think he'll be nothing but trouble with large money in his pocket. Mariota looks very good from what I've seen. You can't really say because of the system he is in, that he won't translate into a good NFL QB, or that no NFL offence will work with his skills. Last year, I didn't like that FA came before the draft, this year, I think I like it. If we can't find a decent FA QB, we can go high in the draft, if we do find someone in FA, we can look to draft WR and lineman spots early.
We do need a quarterback but I'm just not sold on these guys at the top of the draft. Taking a qb just for the sake of it is a bad practice. Go get a veteran, draft a qb in the later rounds. while you fix holes on the team. That strategy worked for the Cardinals. So you have a solid vet qb and two developmental QB's.
