I love Devito but would have loved having Douglas back for depth. Guess he doesn't want a ring:smile:
can't blame douglas... he'll start on that d-line with ferguson's retirement and merlings injury...he would of been a rotational guy here.... clearly he was looking for more playing time then a superbowl but as a player of course he wants to see the field...
Douglas was a warrior, and I hate losing him. Having depth is never a bad thing, but what can you do?
Technically we've already made that move this off season. People forget that Rex Ryan was just a D-line coach when Nolan was running the show in Baltimore in the early-mid 2000s. I would assume that some of what Ryan does is based off of Nolan.
I wouldn't say that he'll "start". I think he will be the "starter" because he'll likely come in on first down, and rotate with Odrick in passing situations. In the end I think Odrick gets more snaps though. Miami also has to find time for McDaniel at RE as nobody is taking snaps away from Langford. You guys know him better than I obviously. What are his strengths? I've heard that it's against the run, but can he provide some pressure/penetration in the pass game?
Doug is a good 2-gap run stuffer. Rex brought him over from the Ravens last year. He's strong at the point of attack and can take on 2 o-lineman consistantly (good for a 3-4 D) but he has like 2 sacks in 50 years of NFL play. We are thin on the d-line as well and most of us were hoping Doug would 'look around' but ultimately return to the promise land. But now that he's a fish, he's a worthless piece of shit that will never contribute!
Going with the a young guy over an aging Vet is the tact they are taking. The Red Sox did the same thing. Better one year early, then one year late. And I don't buy its money, its good decision making Douglas Faneca Jones Sheppard
I wish him well he was a solid player here---I guess Brunell if the rumors were true signs soon ps I still want Adelius Thomas --but I am sure Rex knows what he has left in the tank
A lot of fans here were high on him and Tyson Alualu for a DE prospect. However, if we knew Kyle Wilson would be an option at 29, everybody would have wanted him. Most assumed Wilson would be gone by 20.
That's who I wanted before the draft but I'm happy with Wilson because either way we would have gotten a good player.
Yeah the initial reaction from most of us when Wilson got taken over a pass rusher was "huh? Another corner??" Then about ten seconds later we were stoked.
I was at the draft, and many of us were all about Oldrick. I don't even think Kyle Wilson was on many people's radar, other than the most knowledgeable college fans. Didn't hear too many cheers. Don't get me wrong, I love the pick.
Thanks for the responses... Revis and Cromartie..those two are your starters no question, and you knew that before the draft, I would think there would of been some serious dissapointment on draft day picking another corner who if all goes right, will not be starting in your forseeable future...Is Ryan's thought process and ultimate goal in drafting Wilson to cover 3, and put 8 in the box most of the time?..or was it because the value of having a full time explosive returner took precedent?
Wilson is the guy I wanted most outside of Eric Berry, but since Berry wasnt any kind of an option, I was hoping that Wilson would somehow slide, but I honestly thought he would come off the board in the top 20, and I was shocked when Kareem Jackson went at 20, and was even more surprised when the pats took Devin Mccourty. when Wilson was on the board when the Fins went to pick I knew he would be there for us and today i am stilll in shock as to how that happened. I never wanted Odrick, because I feel at his best he will be a solid NFL player, albeit at a position that is very hard to find. And I am firmly against draftin a player in the first round with a ceiling of simply solid to good. As for Rex's plan, he is desperate to have the corners to be able to beat Manning. Also there is the uncertainty of how long Cromartie will be with us, he is only here on a 1 year deal and while we think he will return to form, we cant be 100% positive this is the case. Also with the Revis contract disaster brewing, Wilson may be thrust into a starting role sooner than any of us would like to see....
I believe Odrick's violent hand use and unprecedented size at Def. end, boost's his celing up a little more. It makes sense to draft accordingly to compete with what the colts are bringing to the table, when you have a player like Peyton and those receivers on top of the conference, draft day can change, hell their 3rd and 4th receivers {Garcon, Collie} are tearing fools up... However, I don't think the colts passing game is your only worry...ya'll have yet to stop our running game. The wildcat with Ronnie, which you haven't done yet, and now base offense, and you know that base run offense only gets better with a Brandon Marshall skillset creating space for our highly skilled runners, to me it's similar to how Revis creates less space for his teammates to cover because of his skillset.. With our power and wildcat running game, one of your boys {Cromartie/Wilson} never see's the field, and from what ive heard, the game Cromartie had against ronnie brown last year was one of the reason's for his release.....He punished that dude.. So your draft may help you against the colts but it wont for our type of game, I guess I just like knowing that your first round pick will not be on the field much when were pounding the ball...
