He didn't have an assault charge for what it's worth. The woman did not press charges. The police did not charge him, who knows what happened. All allegations. That's why I said if I was a GM I would like to get to the bottom of that if possible. If you personally wouldn't touch him until the third round, you might as well just say you don't want him on the Jets because he's not lasting until the 3rd round anyway. Personally, I don't see much of a difference between being ok with taking him in the 3rd vs. being ok with taking him in the 2nd. He's a risk either way, that talent wise is better than those rounds. Unless you are enamored with someone else in the second round, but as far as pegging Green-Beckham the prospect, 2nd or 3rd doesn't really make a difference.
Drafting as high as the Jets are in the 2nd they are almost assured of getting a safer first round talent that slid out of the first. If the Jets were a more established team talent wise then DGB would be worth the risk in the 2nd but the Jets are ateam that really can't afford to throw away a day 1 or 2nd round pick on a high risk player. A team with a deeper talent pool can afford to take that risk.
I guess I disagree strongly with you but that's fine. I agree that the Jets don't have much of a talent pool offensively which is why I think taking a chance at a top-level talent makes MORE sense for them than playing it safe and taking a lesser talent because he's less risky. A great muse once said "when you got nothing, you got nothing to lose" If you are going to bet big, bet big on high talent!
And regarding the assault you need to read this. http://www.komu.com/news/text-messages-shed-light-on-dgb-burglary-assault-allegations-55423/ the Texts that were recovered showed DGB's girlfriend begging her friend not to press charges but the texts also acknowledge the events happened. Just because he wasn't charged doesn't mean the event didn't happen. Relatively minor on the scale of things but it will keep him in a very focused spotlight so that the first off field incident will balloon up.
I love boom or bust picks!! DGB and Peters are both this! Both were dismissed from school and both are tremendous talents. I would love to grab DGB with our 2nd!
If this kid is available in the second round, I'd grab him. He will not make it to the 3rd. The Niners will make sure of that.
He's a huge risk, if taken in the first round. He's a top-5 talent, but he'll be picked between the second and third round. I think he needs to go to a team that has strong leadership. If he lasts until late in the second rouns, guaranteed Patriots are taking him. He's worth the risk to them. If he doesn't work out, he's out!!!
A stupid team will take him early in the second at the latest, he is a bad risk but a risk that will put asses in seats
If he can stay from Mary Jane, there's no doubt he can. The big question is he gonna be like a certain Dolphins RB and love Mary Jane more than football?
Very interesting pick in the second or third round. If he had no problems he would be a first rounder.
If we can get fowler with our first rounder I would take him with our 2nd rounder. Can be a disappoinemt but can be the biggest steal in this years draft. With the edition of Marshall it takes the pressure off the pick for a couple years and off DGB to perform at and elite level right away. I hope this kid doesn't waste the talent he has like Gordan has done regardless of the team he gets drafted too. He can be a HOF player if he stays out of trouble
With the personal conduct and drug policies so strict, I think it's too risky to take this guy with a high draft pick. All it takes is one screw up and poof, there goes your investment. Sorry, but I like safer bets.
