I was thinking the EXACT same thing. Originally, I thought DMC was a lock for the Raiders, being as Al loves the flashy skillo player, but I think Sedrick Ellis now qualifies as a flashy skill player, as he is the best player in Al's backyard and he dominated at the Senior BOwl, and dominated all week. And this is where he'd he'd take off his glasses and say, that's headlines, baby. I was thinking our only hope for McFadden was if the Chiefs picked ahead of the Raiders at 4 and we trade Chad and #6 for #4 or something largely crazy like that, but Sedrick Ellis making himself some money this weekend was the best possible thing that could ahve happened for me and my love for Reverend Run.
Here's another reason the Raiders may pass on McFadden for Sedrick Ellis .. Michael Bush People are forgetting about Michael Bush because he spent his rookie season on the IR, but this player carried a 1st RD Grade into last years draft prior to breaking his ankle and the Raiders drafted him anyway, knowing he would probably miss his rookie season but looking towards the future In truth, I forgot about Michael Bush as well, I was reminded about that only tonite So the Raiders have Michael Bush, Justin Fargas, Dominic Rhodes and LaMont Jordan Now compare that to what the Raiders have at DT .. Gerard Warren, Josh Shaw and Terdell Sands whom I believe is a free agent? Tommie Kelly is a DE/DT, he can play DT, but I know for sure that he's an unrestricted free agent Anyway, even if the Raiders cut Jordan loose, they still have Bush, Fargas and Rhodes Lastly, there's a Sedrick Ellis interview link at NFL.com as well, and he talks about working with the Raiders staff at the Senior Bowl and being coached up by the Raiders D-line coach .. not a big deal, they were there to work with all of the prospects, but they did get an up-close look at Ellis and apparently gave him a lot of attention
Thanks ed, I completely forgot about Michael Bush as well, and I loved him as a prospect, I was touting him for the Jets when he was still playing ball at Louisville .. and he was a 1st Rounder on my board prior to breaking his ankle BTW, I Just talked to a Raiders fan who is also a devout draftnik and he said the Raiders are very high on Michael Bush and he believes they would take the D-lineman, for whatever its worth, but he does follow his team as closely as we follow ours
I dont know if Run DMC will slip to 6 because Dallas will try very hard to move up to get him and they have the picks and guys to get things done.
I can't see Atlanta passing on McFadden. Yes they need a QB, but Warrick Dunn is well into his 30's. Also, as much as any other team, the Falcons are in dire need of a "face of the franchise" after the Mike Vick disaster. In a lot of ways I think McFadden could do for Atlanta what Bush did for New Orleans. Also, with a pair of second round picks (have HOU's from the Schaub trade), they have to chips to trade back into the first round to nab one of the top QBs.
That's right, I forgot about Michael Bush as well as the Raiders staff at the Senior Bowl (duh), too. Let's see what they do with Fargas. If they resign him, it's all over, they won't take DMC.
Agreed, I can see Oakland passing on him for many reasons as Jabba already pointed out. I cant see Atlanta passing on him though, they will have a pretty good QB prospect sitting for them with their own 2nd round pick. What we really need to hope for is that Matt Ryan really establishes himself as a legit franchise QB and a guy that Atl just cannot pass on. At this point I dont see a big enough difference in the potential of the top tier Qbs and the 2nd tier QBs to warrant passing on DMac.
You could use that same argument for RBs as well. That McFadden doesn?t have enought on guys like Steward, Mendenhall, Jones or Rice to pass on the best QB available. And don?t forget that Atlanta has Jerious Norwood, who looked really good the last two seasons, and was expectet to take over the starting job sometime last year. Atlanta really needs a QB much more than a Rb.
I Agree, Vision .. I would be more concerned about Atlanta taking McFadden than Oakland, and I agree that only Matt Ryan or Brian Brohm putting on a show at the combines will aliviate that fear .. otherwise, I can see Atlanta taking McFadden and selecting a QB in RD 2 as you described Anyway, too me the Falcons are the bigger concern if you want DMC .. I view them as the bigger concern than Oakland One of the QB's has to step up and secure his status as a TOP 5 Pick .. as you pointed out, that is the key
I doubt the Falcons go QB in round 1. Ryan isn't an elite prospect and neither is Brohm. I think they'd have to go McFadden there.
I don't see either QB as being worthy of a top 5 pick, which is why I think the Falcons will take McFadden if he's there, otherwise they'll trade down and grab a QB later. I think Jake Long is the biggest wild card. There's a lot of OL need for the teams at the top of the draft. He could go to just about any team in the top 6.
