G&C not to get too far off topic but would you draft 2 WR this next year? Especially if Mims doesn't play much/at all this season thats an awful lot of zero experience WR personnel all at once at a position that usually takes quite awhile to get acclimated to the NFL isn't it? I'm thinking one platnium draft pick, Mims, Crowder, and then whatever extra vets you can cobble together for the other spots to start with would be ideal wouldn't it? Of course the way the Jets fill the IR list drafting 2 new guys plus Mims would maybe get us half a season worth of one guy if we're especially lucky.
I know you didn't direct this at me, but I'll answer anyway. I'd sign a FA WR and draft one by the end of day 2. That way, there are two proven WR's(Crowder and FA signing) and two who can develop into above average targets for whomever our QB of the future is. Pretty much what you're thinking.
I get what you’re saying but acouple things.. 1. The cardinals didnt let that stop them from drafting a ton of WRs in one draft & theyre starting to show signs of having a very well rounded dynamic unit. 2. You take guys who play different roles within the position who can contribute early in different ways while they grow.Take an X,z and/or a slot. Broken down further great coaches are looking for a WR unit consisting of athletic equivalents to the 5 positions in B ball. I think we take 2 WRs..Both Z types. One more of a pivot route/deep threat & the other more of a shifty short area YAC threat
yeah I think the group needs an overhaul. if we trade down we should get a high 2nd rounder in return plus more next year. that means we would have a top 5 pick, a late 1st, 2 early 2nds, an early 3rd, and a late 3rd. thats 6 picks in the 1st 2 days most of them high. with the top 5 we could take greg rousseau. I know people will hate defense 1st but we have a ton of picks and most edge rushers that are really good go top 10. harder to find good ones later. then with the late 1st and 2 early 2nds we could double dip on WR and get a CB. then with the 2 3rds we can look at CB again and then we have a pick open for whatever (EDGE, RB, TE) we can use the day 3 picks for filling holes and depth. that would give us an offense with sam a good o-line (we can use FA money for o-line and a vet WR too) if we could land juju or galladay that would be amazing. imagine juju/galladay with mims and crowder. then 2 rookie WRs. probably keep smith and berrios to round out the 7 or maybe another late WR or UDFA to supplant berrios. RB would be perine + a rookie. O-line should be better with time. they aren't playing bad outside GVR but he was good last week. on D we would have 2 rookie CBs to go with bless. we can retain pool. that's our top 4. Edge would be zuniga and rousseau. avery and mosley in the middle with cashman and hewitt backing them up. maye and davis at S with mcdougald rotating in. Our d-line is already great with Q, FM, mclendon, foley, and shepard. we should cut anderson. we could have a young good squad. new coach and with 2 1st rounders in 2022 and probably 2 2nd rounders because the trade down and a 3rd that gives us 5 picks in the top 70ish again and we could have a real winner on our hands.
Somebody better tell John Elway, Bo Jackson, and Eli Manning! Further, as of 2018 there had been 10,081 NFL draft picks who never played a down of regular season football in the league. Ernie Davis and Riley Smith are both #1 picks who never played a down as professionals. Obviously, Ernie Davis' situation was quite out of the ordinary (Davis was diagnosed with leukemia a few months after being drafted)-- BUT, he was drafted by the Redskins and was able to force them to trade him away BEFORE he, or anybody, knew he was sick. So he still counts along with Elway, Jackson, and Eli. Closer to home, Joe Namath was an NFL draftee of the Cardinals, but he never played for them.
All fair points. However, Ive seen enough of him to form an opinion that I feel he doesnt have the IT factor. It seems like he will always need excellent cast around him to succeed and he doesnt make any of the players around him better. I would love to have a QB that gets the most out of his players. That makes no name players into serviceable players. This team has so many holes that it will take a QB like that to make this team competitive in the near future. By the time we could stack up this roster with FA and high draft picks for Sam, you could be looking at 2-3+ years from now at the least. If we strike gold and Lawrence is the real deal, the potential playoff clock will speed up considerably. Like you said though, "if". He has a lot of hype for good reason but sometimes you never know. If his ceiling is a Goff or Wentz, then i would stick with Sam though and build up the team more.
We’re talking about TWO players in the last 30ish years out of how many that have been drafted? When you’re bringing up Ernie Davis you know it’s a weak argument and obviously Bo was a completely different story. This is such an annoying worry that is brought up EVERY year with the top prospect and the team with the first pick which is guess what? A terrible team. Also guess what? The team that holds the first pick next year will be a terrible team too. Anyway anyone that knows anything about Trevor Lawrence knows this is a completely irrational worry. He has already said he is entering the NFL draft after the season and does not come across as someone afraid of the challenge of being the face of any franchise.
So you believe that we'll be able to find our next starting QB, a starting WR, a starting OL, and a starting RB... all in one draft? And I guess the defense has to wait until 2022.
Yes things take a little time Do you remember a few years back when you and I were on board picking up the "midget" Baker Mayfield who was another first round pick? Given a Good GM and Coach look how he is doing now ...Brownies are 3-1 and I hope they can upset Pitt this weekend
Sure he does.. He can simply stay in school. Just put the word out that he doesn't want to play for the Jets so don't draft him. Its happened before several times and it will happen again.
He’s already stated he’s entering draft. It’s happened 2 times in the last 30ish years. But it is said every year!
At what point this season do you think the Jets moved off of Sam Darnold? I dont think they are tanking for a QB. They are tanking for draft picks. Do you think they moved off of Darnold after only 4 games this season?
There are many reasons and its hard to pick just one but really it comes down to the culture, the tradition, and the winning atmosphere. Those three inseparable forces weave together to form the fabric of Jets Nation.
Well I DO hate the defense pick but your probably correct that would be a smart play given the circumstances. To be honest I'd sign up for that plan in a second if JuJu or Golladay agreed to play here but I'm afraid that might be unrealistic because as Cman brings up the Jets aren't exactly a planned end destination for free agents setting out on their journey.
