"If anyone thinks Mark Sanchez is what's wrong with the Jets, they didn't watch the game last night." Mike Greenberg. If he had the time Tebow had for a few plays to throw the goddamn ball, we'd be in business, ala his first 2 seasons.
I don't care about the interception. I care that the team has zero explosiveness. What happened to Stephen Hill's 4.3 speed? And I ain't buying that Santonio Holmes being healthy changes it one iota. Or Kerley. Where was the all-pro wannabe Keller? My only hope is that sprinkling in Tebow on a regular basis will make the offense less predictable.
It wasn't a good decision. He may have technically been open but the defender had good coverage. Best case scenario he gets tackled immediately or pushed out of bounds. Worst case scenario we all saw. Part of being a good QB and having good decision making is knowing your limitations and if you know you aren't always accurate then you shouldn't be trying to force it on an out route when you are in FG range. Maybe a better decision would be to throw that pass but to lead it towards the sideline. Worst case scenario is an incomplete pass, 4th down and a FG try
He could have thrown it sooner, like when the wr first cleared Keller's pick, but he was still open when he released it. IMO, Sanchez never adjusted his feet to the direction of the throw. Not an issue of decision making but mechanics.
I'm waiting for Sanchez to go from average at best qb, to a good qb. I hope it happens this year, because this team needs it.
i don't think sanchez can win and i'm a huge supporter of him. its not his fault either, its solely wayne hunters fault. mark can't stay in the pocket long enough to make a play down field. tebow, when the pocket falls, is willing to run for 10 yards which brings us down the field. basically what im trying to say is tebow is a better QB with the shitty, bad oline we have, but if we had a capable RT mark sanchez would be better, no doubt.
Sanchez is fine, i just don't get why we haven't seen any long throw by him Has Sparano called any deep pass yet?
Why are people acting like on every snap Wayne Hunter is getting beat? Yes he may give up more sacks than average but are you guys purposely forgetting that Mark had his moments where he had time in the pocket? The best he did in those situations were check downs to Turner, Conner, Greene and Keller.
^Hunter was directly responsible for 2 sacks and the blown 4th and 1 play. Maybe you forget that our #1 yesterday was Turner. I know you're trying to blame Sanchez, but he was 9/11 today. Check downs happen we you aren't playing with Holmes, or any other NFL experienced receivers. Turner, Hill, White. All rookies except Turner, who's been a backup his entire career. Much better to checkdown, than to get sacked or throw an incomplete pass / pick. You aren't buying that our best receiver by far (plus our #2 and 3) being out had something to do with that? Keller was 1 for 1 was he not? People are still buying in way too much to preseason games. With Holmes in, it changes everything. The only thing that I noticed is something needs to be done about Hunter.
I guess I see your point. We are basically arguing semantics here. My point is just because a guy is open doesn't mean you have to throw it if there is not much to gain from a completion. Knowing that a bad throw in a particular part of the game will cripple your chances and risking it anyway is a bad decision. But you're right, mechanics were an issue as well.
That pick-six was Deja Vu Ravens game last year. Also, defenses are just sitting and waiting for that throw, knowing that the dink and dunk, checkdown is Sanchez's bread and butter. He's predictable to a fault. There were several times yesterday that he made one read then immediately looked for the checkdown. As the pocket broke down, he had time still to step up, go through his progressions, and make the proper throw. Nope. 81% on throws mostly 6 yards or less in the zone where its unlikely to result in a first down. No touchdowns or solid throws pushing the ball down field. Not sure that's gonna fly with you-know-who waiting in the wings. It looked like the end of last season and games against teams with a good pass rush like the Giants and Ravens.
Disagree, this looks a lot different. Even though he had been checking down, he hasn't looked skittish it doing it. He just doesn't have the time to go deep or his #1 or #3 receiver.
I did say he gives up more sacks than average but I'm not gonna ignore that Wayne had his moments when he *gasps* pancaked JPP thus giving Sanchez time to makes his reads. Sanchez just couldn't take advantage. I'm not trying to blame Sanchez I'm just calling it like I see it.
Did Eli play better than Sanchez? He threw an interception too but Sanchez is the only QB who gets skewered. Peyton threw an interception too and had the same QB rating as Sanchez. Eli was 7-14 and Sanchez 9-11. Who had the better protection? Who had the better receivers? Who is playing in a new offense? Does pre-season matter only when Sanchez plays? Ok, Sanchez didn't throw deep and Eli did and got intercepted on a really bad throw, worse than Sanchez int. It's still pre-season. Let wait for a few games into the season. I think though the right tackle position needs to be fixed or else it's going to be a long season. I would be very surprised if they don't pick up a RT off waivers. They already made it clear that they want to fix the RT position when they traded for Otah. If Hunter ends up starting, Rex and Tanny need to be skewered at least as much as Sanchez.
Wow, took a day off from posting. Didn't realize that pick in a pre-season game would cause this kind of commotion (spelled correctly?). I wouldn't say that throw was th right decision because we were in FG range and if it was under-thrown, you know what was going to happen, but hell, he went 9/11. The only thing that I was disappointed with was the lack of explosive plays (yet, again). I guess I was kind of disappointed with WFH, but you kind of knew what to expect out of him. If anyone is going to argue that Tebow has looked better, they are sadly mistaken. what was it 5/14? That's atrocious, especially against 2's and 3's. He missed Hill standing wide open in the endzone and on a check down, he threw the ball about 20 feet over the RB's head. Those are just two of the examples I can think of. If anything, this game proved why Tebow should not even be considered to be in a "competition". There is none!!
