Yes, please. We need top receiver talent, no more second-rate receivers. Will people ever learn their lesson?
Vincent Jackson will most likely demand a bigger contract than Holmes, probably 5 years 55 million or more. We dont need a big contract like that for a #2. And no, we cant cut Holmes to free up his money.
Not that I think we could afford Jackson given our assumed cap situation and needs, but Jackson would absolutely be the #1 here and Holmes would be the #2 where he belongs.
IMO, it would actually be more 1a 1b. Jackson is a good player but VERY inconsistent. He goes from games with 100 yrds 6 rec and a TD to 1 reception and 20 yard games. Holmes , when the team is doing well and he isnt being an asshole, usually has a decent stat line then bursts out a few games a year. Theyre both up and down and Jackson holds more of that big game potential then Holmes so I do see what youre saying.
I hope you realize how ridiculous your sentence about Holmes' "consistency" sounds. Just re-read it a few times if you don't. I agree that Jackson is inconsistent, but Holmes usually always sometimes often is consistent when everything else is going right around him.
 Halfway through my explanation I was doubting myself about Holmes, thus having an odd sentence. Holmes is a good WR but his play has really been off as of late. I think he has the ability to play at a high level again next season. I still would say Jackson and him would be more of a luxury then an ideal 1 and 2 combo. I think of both of them as Top 15-20 WRs in this league. Thus making them more like #1s then 1 and 2. If that makes sense... hahaha.
I think Holmes still has it and would benefit from someone like Edwards taking pressure off of him, which Burress did not do between the 20's. Keller disappearing for long stretches does not help Holmes either. Maybe Cumberland can be some help in that regard in 12. Looking at the situation with cap space and FA for current Jet players, I don't know that a big signing for a #2 wideout is in the cards this year. I also think Kerley is likely set at #3. P Turner at 4? I didn't think so earlier this year, but I saw signs of progress for him later in the season. Maybe the Jets thought so, too. Burress on the other hand is likely gone, and I would not be surprised if he is soon out of football. Imo that leaves bringing Edwards back as the best option. The team needs to focus on safety, perhaps needing two there, OLB, RT and OL bench as the most compelling areas in need of attention. Other areas include RB, TE, backup Qb and somewhere down the list even 4th CB and prospects for ILB down the road. Where does number 2 wideout fit in there when considering the cap? If you consider that question, imo Braylon's return for a fair price is the best option.
I hardly think Holmes is not a problem going forward, but let's not be too emotional about it. The Jets were not even targetting him hardly at all as the season wound down. Why? He was not injured. He had a lousy game in Philly, to be sure, but that was only one game. And... he's not going anywhere. Face it. That means the Jets have to accept that between Holmes and Sanchez, their two contracts suck out a huge amount of cash under the cap for the O. So big numbers for another wideout is unrealistic. Imo Holmes can be brought back in from the cold if he can see that the Jets have a program for using him and for taking pressure off him from double teams with a better wideout on the other side than Burress. I'd also love to see Keller changed out for a more effective TE, but that is probably not happening this year.
I never said I wanted to get rid of Holmes? If thats what you were implying? Holmes will be on this roster whether you or us or me or anyone likes it. He is our #1 wideout and while we have him locked up we have to get the most we can possibly get out of him, whether hes a scumbag or not, he makes plays, and can win games. We dont have money for another WR I agree with you, thats why i stated it prior. I agree that Keller isnt the answer at TE, BUT we are sticking with him as of now, because he is good enough. Id love to bring in a guy like Fred Davis but that wont be happening. We will have Keller on this team just like Holmes until this team can afford not to have them.
I am sorry, I should have been more clear I was basically agreeing with you, but I was also pointing out some of the reasons why had a relatively rough end to his season. On Keller, I think it more likely than not he will be back even if he's not the right TE for this team, but the Jets just might be able to trade him. Keller will be in his contract year this coming season, I believe, so the right team might want to take him and extend/redo his contract. I just have to wonder who would want him. I don't see the Jets cutting him, either, although that might free up some cap space. In the end it's likely they go one more year with Keller and see how much Cumberland can help. Which sounds like a conservative but potentially mediocre approach. Back to Holmes, I agree it is pointless to engage in big talk about cutting him, so he likely stays. I even go so far as being more understanding about his behavior this past year than most here, although as I said he is a problem. I am just more optimistic than pessimistic about him going forward, compared to most here, I take it.
Keyshawn was talking about coming back. Might have been 4-5 yrs ago, I can't remember exactly. Who wants to call him?
