The 2nd QB is a non-issue. Favre plays QB and thats it. Some years the #2 only sees a mop-up session to kneel down and that's it. I read somewhere the Jets have had like 15 different starters at QB since Favre started the streak. That revolving door just closed. My oldest started pre-school two years after the streak started and this week she just started college. The #2 QB gets to practice, hold the clipboard and hopefully learn.
DWare, this thread is full of premature ejaculations, for sure. Let's see what happens in the real games. You guys, why not see if you can hold your water for another week or so...
KC was shite last year. No excuses. He developed happy feet and held onto the ball too long. I don't care if he throws to the moon. He still has issues with game management and decision making which make me favor Ratliff for now.

Probably not.
In my book, ratty's #2 ".....First of all Gary Grund is the bomb, diggin\ for the scraps and lookin' for what your not gonna here about. Found this on jets central and from what little Iv'e seen and heard this kid may very well be the real deal, i would like to see him in some more preseason and even mop up duty in the season, i think he jumps ahad of Clemens by miles on the depth chart......#2 ratty, #3 Clemens Ranking The NFL?s Backup Quarterbacks Tuesday, August 26th 2008, 5:56 pm by Gary Grund Don Banks of SI.com takes a look at and ranks the backup quarterbacks in the NFL for each team. Coming in at number two may surprise some of you. Jets quarterback Brett Ratliff is on Banks list as the No. 2. 22. New York Jets: Brett Ratliff ? The ?other? Brett on the Jets? roster has clearly out-performed Kellen Clemens this preseason, throwing for 451 yards in his three preseason games while getting lots of snaps with the second-team offense. But there?s still some question whether New York head coach Eric Mangini will relegate Clemens, a 2006 second-round pick, to the No. 3 role? It could be that Clemens would get the first call if the Jets just need a game or two of relief in place of Brett Favre. Anything longer and New York would turn to Ratliff. Interesting to say the least. I find it hard to believe that Mangini would go as far as moving Clemens down to the No. 3 role once again after rising from No. 3 to No. 1 over the past two years. Ratliff currently ranks second in the NFL during preseason in passing yards with 451, tied for second with three passing touchdowns, ranks fifth in completion percentage with a 67.4%, first in yards per game at 150.3.
Ratliff has looked very good but it has been against the 3rd team defenses but i still think the kids got a future with us and so far he has outplayed clemens by a good margin. I still think its too early to call him the #2 Mangini drafted clemens in the 2nd round i think he will stick with him as the backup for atleast this season and next season who knows ratty can push for that starting spot if #4 isn't no longer throwing rockets for us.
Clemens hasn't shown enough this preseason to make a claim on the #2. If he gets the backup job it'll be because he's the third year guy who knows the system, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that. If Mangini wants to practice what he preaches he'll give the guy who actually had a good camp the #2 job.
Yea agreed. I think Ratliff has earned it but i would love to see him get the start thursday if Favre doesent play and let Clemens backup just to see what ratty can do against the first team defense.
I like grund a lot, too. Glad to see JCentral is back online. I got a message the other day it was off-line due to non-payment. Must have been an oversight or administrative error.
I'm hoping for an open competition, next year, between Ratliff, and Clemens, for the #1 spot. I think we all know Favre won't be here by then.
Ratliff probably does deserve to be #2 but if Mangini does that I can see Clemens becoming a disruptive force (just one more). For that reason alone I'm not sure Mangini will do it. If he does then maybe Clemens gets cut.
So Don Banks has watched every snap of both QB's in practice and game to make this determination and factored in that Ratliff plays against # 3's. He also considered the lack of game planning against the Jets for a QB with NO regular season experience. I see.
Ratliff looks pretty good for the round he was selected in, and we all know that round selection is a terrible indicator of future success for QBs (just look at that team to the north). But I think it'll be a more likely scenario for him to climb to #2 next year (or even #1 if Favre hangs 'em up again?), not this year. At least at first, if (god forbid) the #2 ever becomes an important issue. This year, Ratliff's rookie year, I think you can only let Ratliff get a shot at #2 if Clemens gets put in there in non-garbage time and loses the job first due to his own play ... The more intriguing question isn't who's #2 and who's #3, it's what they do with Ainge? Do Jet carry all four QBs? Packers last year have gotten secure enough that Favre will keep upright that they only carried ONE other QB (Rodgers) on their roster going into the season. I imagine Jets carry three, and try to get Ainge onto the practice squad? Would he clear waivers?
Well said. Yes, Ratliff looked very good this preseason. He had 3 amazing TD passes and was very poised in the pocket. Yes, he also has one of the highest QB ratings in the league. I honestly don't think some of you realize how little that means. I'm not sure if you folk remember this far back, but there was this guy who won his first five games of the season his first year as starter. He threw 10 TDs, his QB rating averaged over 100, he had a laser rocket arm, and he looked downright incredible. Now he's the back-up in Chicago and it turns out he was, in fact, incredible. Seriously, get off your knees and clean yourselves up, people.. all this Ratliff crap is getting unbearable.
our 2nd round Qb is so amazing. Why isn't he starting. I think KC is a godsend. He should be the future franchise QB. He's got a cannon for an arm , he's super accurate, and a true leader. I mean the way his recievers miss the perfectly thrown spirals is a shame. They need to make adjustments and train way harder in the offseason. If we never got farve I wasn't worried we got KC. I see him breaking Peyton's TD record for a season once that old ass robot named farve leaves....Shit I think he is the only guy who can beat chuck norris.
