Whoa....I guess you don't like the Revis selection from 2 years ago????? The Jet's need a solid Caliber CB next to Revis....I like Lowery, but he can be a nickel player........I'm not sold on Lowery playing on the edge yet.
I'm still hoping for Sean Smith out of Utah... Wake corner Alphonso Smith has looked great at the Senior Bowl...so far. His size is a concern, but I think he's got what it takes to start in the NFL.
I would be happy if we drafted Davis, we really need to sure up the #2 CB. With Davis being drafted, and the strong possibility of Jim Leonhard following Ryan to the NYJ, we would have a pretty damn good secondary...
I really like Sean Smith, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he falls into the end of rd 1. I like Vontae Davis, but Smith to me at least, has more of an upside and can be flexible in the secondary. I wouldn't have a problem with the Jets trading down to late in Rd 1 and draft Smith and pick up another 2nd rd pick.
Hell yes I would -- Steve Smith is 5'9 185 pounds...and he was a 3rd round pick. He's earned the title of playmaker. A lot of teams passed on him.
I agree I think he'd be a nice fit to play the inside. If we passed on him or Macklin to get another corner I'm not sure i'd be happy.
I wouldn't mind if we picked a CB in the first round. Look how well revis has worked out and if we have more stability in our secondary that means we can more aggresive with the front seven. I think we will get a couple good FA especially with Ryan hopefully pull some out of Balitmore. If we can get Maualaga and haven't filled that need in Free Agency I think he would be the ideal type player for Ryan to go nuts with. I think you just can't lost there.
Small guys can be physical, that's my point. I think Harvin would Maclin would be plenty physical for small wr's. Also, don't assume Ryan's plan for the defense will necessarily carry over to the offense.
I'm not assuming anything. Rex Ryan said he wants to play physical on offense too. What I get from that is this: Ryan wants to win the game with his defense. I'm willing to bet our offense is extremely conservative while he's here. Jeremy Maclin just doesn't seem like the right fit for this type of team. He's not physical, he's a finesse player. Sometimes it seems like he's afraid to get hit. Percy Harvin is the least physical "receiver" in this draft. The kid's a gimmick player, but a damn good one. He's one of the most injury prone guys in college football. He needs to be used out of the backfield and in the slot in order for him to have success in the NFL. If this new coaching staff brings a receiver in through the draft, it should be a PHYSICAL receiver. Kenny Britt and Hakeem Nicks are two guys off the top of my head. Ramses Barden is a late round sleeper as well. I'll be putting up a thread later about a guy no one is talking about.
I'm holding you to that. We have one of the best defensive minds running our team now. If you think for one second he won't grab the BPA defensively no matter what in round one, you're crazy.
