yea i'm glad the hype on dante fowler is finally coming in. i've had him as my #1 pass rusher for 2 months now. another player that i think the jets MAY consider at #6 is Bud Dupree. he's the quickest off the snap and has amazing athletic gifts. he's incredibly raw, but from all accounts he's an extremely hard worker and if he reached his potential he could be the #1 pass rusher that comes out of this draft
I just don't have these pass rushers, expect Fowler, rated high enough to go at #6, so I would take the BPA and not reach.
It's hypocrisy to call a highly touted QB Mariota a possible bust -code words for not a "sure thing" yet call a good but not great WR a "sure thing". It's pure hypocrisy and if you don't want my opinion then don't post a mock. It's likely that there will be a BETTER NFL WR later in the draft but because I don't agree with your mock doesn't mean I'm right or wrong or you're right it wrong. It's guessing. _
DeAndre Hopkins had a pretty good 2nd yr with Ryan Fitzpatrick getting him the football. Fitzpatrick will get Decker, Marshall and Cooper the football if we were to draft Cooper. The issue is the turnovers. Cooper IMO, best receiver in this draft hands down - most polished, great route runner, 4 down football player. Kevin White, great physical talent, but I look at the tape and I think Cooper is still the better overall receiver. I like this mock, even though you didn't draft a QB [in which it's either Winston or Mariota - I wouldn't touch any of the other QBs in this draft]. People need to realize also, Decker and Marshall haven't exactly been the most healthiest receivers. I hope Oakland gets Kevin White - they can have him.
I would have loved this draft if you hadn't passed on Mariota to take Cooper. IMO that's insane for the reasons that Stokes enumerated. No WR and no other position player is more important than QB. Look at what Brady has done in NE with mostly mediocre WRs. He had Randy Moss for what, only 1-2 years? The rest of the time, he's had great slot receivers and TEs, and jags at the WR spots. Now if Mariota was gone before the Jets pick, I'd be very happy with this draft, although I might prefer taking Fowler in the 1st and a WR in the 3rd Otherwise, I love adding an OT in round 2, and then grabbing an OLB in round 3. I even like Holliman in the 4th. I know he has some problems with tackling, but as long as he's willing to learn and make the effort, that is something that can be corrected. I don't know much about his character concerns. Of course, I'd want the Jets to thoroughly check him out/vet those concerns, but if they're satisfied that he won't be a problem, I'd love to add a real ballhawk to the secondary.
The thing is, with Marshall and Decker, being "pro ready" isn't that important. White has a higher ceiling and so may Parker. I think I'd prefer to go with one of them, even if they took a little while to develop. The Jets could afford to take some time in putting one of them on the field.
It's easy to say that in retrospect, but Sanchez's college tape was fantastic. I think Winston is going to be good, but I'm not completely sold on him, and the same applies to Mariota. And although Winston's issues off the field are overblown, there's always the potential that he blows up there; I just don't like the term "sure thing". If you're waiting for a "sure thing" , the Jets won't be drafting a Quarterback until 2020.[/QUOTE] I agree with most of your posts, but not that Sanchez' college tape was fantastic. I didn't like him at all, hated his being picked, especially traded up for, and not just because he had only played one year and at that time undergrad QBs had a horrible failure record in the NFL.
Be careful what you wish for, my friend. With Cooper struggling against bigger and faster DBs, he could wind up being a so-so WR in the NFL. He may not be a bust, but may struggle alot and not be that productive. White has the potential to be MUCH better than Cooper.
White is bigger, faster, more physical, more violent, more explosive than Cooper. Cooper is a great prospect. But looking at what he and what White did in college and the physical talents that they possess (the physical is more important than the mental for WRs as opposed to QBs), White projects as a better pro. Not a slight on Cooper. A great talent. He's not White. Cooper is not getting the separation in the NFL that he got in the SEC. _
You have to watch how Cooper uses his hands and feet when he gets off the line of scrimmage, he's elusive and has amazing technique. Cooper ain't struggling when it comes to press. You watch how Antonio Brown from the Steelers uses his hands, and then watch the tape on Cooper, they are very very similar. As you know, Brown has a record of 5 catches and 50 yards for consecutive games. I would love that consistency and that's what Cooper brings. That's what the Jets need. I don't think White will give you that same consistency. He's got great upside though. I myself, prefer a receiver that perfects his craft and that is what Cooper does. Route running, elusiveness, 4 down player. Potential is a strong word, a word that at times - gets football teams in trouble.
I think with Marshall and Decker here, Cooper would be the better fit. Not sure Kevin White would be a good slot receiver.
