Right on I like what you said. I agree losing Shottenheimer isn't such a big loss. If we was to lose him it is not like our offense would change. We would still dink and dunk and Chad will change the play as he sees the defense. In fact our run offense sucked badly with Brian. I'll love to keep him but if he goes big whoops. People lose coordinators all the time and remain fairly the same. Hence the Pats. I doubt Huizenga would want Shottenheimer that bad being that he likes to give full control to his HC. I don't see him trusting Brian with his inexperience but he is desperate so who knows.
Unless he's a great interviewer I don't see him getting hired just yet. However who would've thought a guy like McCarthy would've got hired in Green Bay when San Fran's offense wasn't very good in '05? I think there's alot more experienced assistants out there that they'll go after and Schottenheimer just fits the offensive minded type of coach they're looking for.
New England said the same thing about Mangini. I doubt Schotty leaves, solely because Miami has interviewed 10 other candidates and I would assume they want someone older. But this is a copy-cat league, so they may think the youth/potential route is the way to go. It would be a very good hire for Miami if somehow they offered the job to Schotty.
Lets hope the reports are correct & Jim Mora Jr is the Dolphins choice as that will lead to at least 3 or 4 years of them NOT being a factor in our division until he gets fired or quits
What if by SOME chance Shotty does get hired on in Phin Land? Who do you think we could get that is equal, or better than Shotty?
Guys, a lot of times teams interview the HOT assistant even if they do not want him just to pick his brain. Remember, the Dolphins want their coach to be their GM (kind of like Belichick.. he picks the groceries, and Pioli does the financial stuff. They want the same setup). They are not giving that to a 1 yr coordinator.
Am I the only one that doesn't think that Shotty is the "offensive guru" that everyone is painting him out to be? While I think he will be good, has shown the ability to tailer the offense around the personnel available and is innovative, the Jets ranked 18th in scoring with 19.8 points per game, 20th in rushing and 18th in passing. The offense was shutout twice, an indictment of the offensive gameplan more than anything else. Furthermore, despite many around here annointing Leon and Cedric the next great runningbacks, the Jets running game was horrible. The offense really wasn't that good this year. No one seems willing to place blame on Chad, Leon/Cedric or the WRs. Sure the O-line was young, but people are calling Mangold the next great center and D'Brick, while not an immediate stud held his own. And, people think Shotty is tremendous. So, why was the Jets offense so bad?
No.. their owner (I can't spell his name, the Blockbuster guy) the day Saban quit said that they are not going to spare any expenses, AND he sees the HC as the CEO of the company.. complete control. He said it himself.
With the offensive talent our team has? 19.8 points per game was quite good. We have a QB who can't consistently throw the ball m ore than 20 yds down the field. We have 0 running game. We have 2 good WRs.. not awesome, just good, a very good center, and the rest of our line is weak. With that, he took a team that was an embarassment on offense and at least put them in positions to win games. Our offense moved the ball against Chicago. Gameplan had nothing to do with the shutout. A pick on a poorly thrown rock and another on a stupidly thrown rock did. JAX game just snowballed
How does the gameplan have nothing to do with a shutout? That means on every offense position you were unable to move the ball even into field goal position. How does that not fall on the game plan. JAX got out of hand quickly, but the Jets didn't really go into a full on aerial attack to get back in it. The ran their gameplan and got nothing...except for a token 100-yard rushing day from Leon.
But we were in FG position a minimum of twice, and turned the ball over. We don't have the PERSONNEL FOR A FULL FLEDGED AERIAL ATTACK! You can't judge on rankings alone. ANY OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR with LT as their back and their offensive line is going to look better than someone with our personnel..
Don't take it Schotty, it's a mess down there in Florida, Struggling QB's, Aging defense and a dopey mess that won't end.
Well, that is the other side of the story too. Although I'm sure he eventually aspires to be a HC somewhere, Schottenheimer might not want that particular job at this time and in that place. I think the Miami total job description might be over his head right now, not to mention that it's been said that Miami made many changes for Saban and brought in many of his own people and assistants. The impression I got from reading a recent article on the Saban fiasco is that Miami is being left in a terrible situation because of the all the custom things the FO did for him to set everything up exactly the way he wanted it. Then he flies the coup and leaves them holding the bag with a totally Saban-oriented management situation and no Saban. Does Schottenheimer really want to go in there and have to contend with that whole mess? I think he interviews for the job if for no other reason than the "experience" of being interviewed (read: the notoriety and publicity exposure among other NFL teams of being considered) and that Miami will probably take someone with more experience. But he'll probably be gone in another year and Mangini and Tanny will have to perhaps do some early exploration so that we can make an immediate and clean change when the time comes. By accepting the interview (if he does), Schottenheimer essentially puts our FO on notice that it's just a matter of time.
and the jets situation looked beter when mangini took the job last year. the nfl has proved time and time again that good coaching can change the look of a franchise real quick. it woild be a smart move to hire shotty from the jets, you wouldnt have to pay him big bucks and you take away a strencth from a division rival
the only reason that miami wants him is because he is having success here and it will hurt us more than it will benefit them. dont we have to give permission to miami to talk to anyone under contract? why wouldnt we just say no? i hope he stays here.
with any team other than one in the afc east he should have the chance to interview. with any afc east team i say no. PHUCK the PHISH. :finssuck:
I thought this might interest a few. Seems like the 'phins are interviewing anyone with a pulse. http://football.about.com/gi/dynami...llweekly.com/content/waywehearit/wwhi_set.asp
DC/OC isnt the same as being QBs coach for 1 year. that means he hasnt gotten any responsibility until this year. he could be good, but he needs way more time to get it together. i mean, he learned how to coach all wrong from his dad....it takes more thatn a year to undo that sort of damage...:rofl2:
