The Jets scored 10 points against the Raiders in the playoffs in 02. Tampa Bay out of the weak NFC put up 48 points on the same Raider team in the SB 3 weeks later.
My oh my. Hows it going Greenies? Had to stop back over and see your reaction on this. I love how everyone is willing to throw out all the Pro Bowl years and MVP candidate fro one bad injured season. Daunte will come back form the knee injury (see Willis McGahee) and he is incredibly talented. Mularky is one of the better offensive minds in the game. Chambers is a Pro Bowl premier reciever, plus Ronnie Brown, Plus Randy McMichael, and still potentially Ricky Williams. Culpepper doesn't have to try and carry the team like he did in Minny last year. He can make plays down the field which is soemthing we Miami has nto had since Marino. Teams are no longer going to be able to stack the line of scrimmage against us. We in Dolphin land are elated! Mr. Owens, Coach Saban will now see you...And bring your friend Chris Hope.
Any time you get a player who has the ability to win the mvp that is still in his prime for only a second round pick, you cant go wrong with that
Sorry Fins, as a Jet fan I'm delighted with the signing of Culpeper. He's a guy that will dominate the poorer teams with his physical talents, but turns invisible come playoff time when facing better coaching. You screwed the pooch on this one. Brees was the right pick for Miami, and Miami was the right pick for Brees. He will do poorly in New Orleans, but not as poorly as Dunce will in Miami. If you don't believe me, check the tape of Vikes vs. Eagles, 2004 Divisional playoffs. You're best hope is that the schedule makers put your first New England game deep into your season; once Belichick draws up the blueprint, Dante will be dissected by every team that follows.
the difference is the Jets-raider game was 10-10 late in the 3rd qtr and our offense scored 10 pts. he was SHUTOUT by a medicore Giant D and the Giants in turn were shut out on O against the Ravens. That had nothing to do w/ gruden knowing exactly what oak was going to do? He had better talent when he had Moss, Carter and Smith and he still was shut out by the Giants in '00 and has been to the playoffs once since then at 8-8. He is a big time choker. daunte Culpepper is what is wrong w/ sports today. Fans and media go gaga over great stats instead of actual great players, it's all about #s. it's hwy some folks think derek jeter is overrated and some folks think Tom Brady is overrated- it's NOT about stats. Ask marino if he would trade in a few records for a title. Daunte has put up great #'s in a couple of seasons but it hasn't translated to big games. When the pressure is on he folds add to the fact he is now damaged goods so he doesn't even have the physical capablities he once had. To all the dolphin fans enjoy your fools gold. He's a physical specimen and he looks real good but at the end of the day he's worthless. It's not a coincidence that in the 16 games he has missed since 2001 the vikes are 10-6 and w/ Daumte the team is under .500.
Actually it is a coincidence. That and the incredibly easy schedule the Vikings had after Culpepper went down. The Giants were the only halfway decent team they played in that entire "run" and we know the story of that game, the defense and special teams kept them in and eventually won the game. When the entire league and many people on this board(including you) were praising and doing backflips over Brad Johnson and the Vikes I correctly predicted they would promptly return to the toilet at the end of the year, which they did, a meaningless game against the Bears notwithstanding. As for the "problem with sports" I think it's more fans that value the contribution of a single player rather then the entire team. You'll get no argument from me that the QB is the most important position on a team, however that doesn't mean that winning or losing is solely on the QB's shoulders. No one is going to deny the talent Culpepper has had on offense, however you also can't deny the absolute void of talent on the defensive side of the ball that has largely contributed to the Vikings mediocre performance over his time there. We're talking about a defense that has once in 5 years, finished out of the bottom QUARTER of the league in defense, and that one time they were a rousing 23rd out of 32 teams. To put this in perspective, Marino, in 16 seasons had just 3 years where his defense finished in the bottom quarter of the league. Also, Tom Brady won his SB's with the 6th, 1st and 2nd ranked defenses in the NFL. Not so coincidentally, the two years the Pats have failed to win under Brady the defense ranked 17th.
Hey Junc, I respect your opinion, but give it up man, this crusade of yours is starting to make you look bad... Here's the bottom line : You can't know, and wont know anything about the state of Culpepper and the Miami Dolphins offense, until we actually get to see him in action. Just let it play itself out.... Why make assumptions now??...We've got plenty of time for that. You'd be much better off just waiting until you can make a more accurate judgement... Anyways, shouldn't you guys be partying your ***** off right now?? Leinart's going fall right into your lap. Oh, and let me remind you, it's all because of the Phinz passing on Brees. You're welcome....
you act like Daunte has played in a rough div, let's break down the games daunte won: '00: Started 16 games(11-5) Against over .500 teams: 4-5, beat 2 playoff teams Against .500 or below teams: 7-0 '01: Started 11 games(4-7, team was 1-4 w/o him) Against over .500 teams: 2-5, beat 2 playoff teams Against .500 or below: 2-2(only win for 1-15 carolina) '02: Started 16 games(6-10) Against over .500 teams: 3-6, beat 1 playoff team. Against .500 or below: 3-4 '03: Started 14 games(7-7, team was 2-0 w/o him) Against over. 500 teams: 4-2, beat 3 PO teams Against .500 or below: 3-5 '04: Started 16 games(8-8) Against over .500 teams: 1-5, didn't beat any playoff teams Against .500 or below: 7-3 '05: Started 7 games(2-5, team was 7-2 w/o him) Against over .500 teams: 0-4 Against .500 or below: 2-1 Overall: 38-42 Against over .500 teams: 14-27 Against .500 or below: 24-15 Team w/ Daunte: 38-42(48%) Team w/o Daunte: 10-6(63%)
I'm not trying to be a jerk to dolphin fans, this has NOTHING to do w/ the dolphins getting him. I have argued for years what i thought of Culpepper and the facts are he hasn't come through when needed the most. I gave you a lost yesterday of QBs who have gotten their teams to the playoffs despite bad D's and Minny's D stunk last year too yet they were 7-2 w/o Daunte. I can buy the D excuse as to why he hasn't been to or won a SB but that shouldn't stop him from getting to the playoffs every year, the fact that since '01 his only playoff year he led them to 8-8 is not good on his resume.
yeah its pretty tough to put up big numbers every game IF the defense SUCKZ, do you guys realize that daunte has a 90+ career qb rating ? there could be other reasons he didn?t won the big games because maybe the DEFENSE couldn?t hold up ?
