Again... we are saying it's ok with players but not with a HC... as far as I can remember a QB is a player. In fact it happens a lot with QBs and other PLAYERS but not with other HCs, don't go into denial mode. At the end of the day it's classless but who cares...
Coaches are on a different level as far as company employees go. They can't be interchanged like that because they have always been handled differently. Indianapolis delenda est.
Nice, the latinos are his gardeners. How classy... And I'm telling you that you have made a separation in your mind between the two. I'm asking you to give me a reason why there should be a difference in how they are dealt with. Don't be a smartass when you are the one regurgitating things you have just accepted to be ethical
They can't be interchanged because that is what the public has deemed as acceptable of one and not the other? Thats such a great argument. How?
Wasn't Herm traded? And regardless that doesn't matter. How does that pertain the level of courtesy one deserves?
No. In the history of the NFL no coach has ever been traded. Nor ever will. They have been allowed out of their contracts for consideration, but they sign a new contract with their new team. They don't just transfer contracts. The coach has to want to go. It's indefensible to keep a guy twisting in the wind while you publicly search for his replacement. And yet, you're defending it.
"It is indefensible to keep a guy twisting in the wind while you publicly search for his replacement." Think about that. I'm asking you to answer why that statement, in your mind, only applies to coaches. I guess I don't get how in a cutthroat business, THIS is sooooooo horrible
If I'm so wrong give a reason why. I'm the first person to admit I'm wrong. But, "thats the way it has always been", or "coaches are different" are not valid reasons. Don't be a sheep
I don't think it only applies to coaches, but you could make the argument that it applies to a lot of positions of leadership. Seriously, how do you expect a guy, who after already having questions swirling around about wether or not he's lost the locker room is now being treated as a last-resort, to come back and be a confident leader? Cut-throat or not, if you've publicly lost confidence in a coach, you have to let him go, not only for his sake but your own.
I agree that it is probably not good for the team if he comes back. But there is probably a 2% chance of that happening. What you are saying is applicable to why it shouldn't be done as far as for the benefit of the team. I still don't see how this is any more unethical than business as usual in the NFL
1) It's more "the part time owners who have nothing to do with football" are his gardners... but if you want to go the ethnical route no problemo. 2) Really, you don't see the separation between the HC and the QB? For example it's not always the case that the QB is the leader of your franchise (look at the Ravens for example or anywhere where they don't have a top 10 QB). On the other hand even on the crappiest team the HC ALWAYS IS THE LEADER... And you've said it yourself... there are teams every year that look to upgrade their QB position with the ex-starter still on the roster. How many teams have been actively shopping for a HC with their current HC still in place? I don't care about morals much in football (it's about results) but for a team and fan-base that goes in heat any time they can underline how classless the Jets are I find this situation funny.
The only people who you should care if they think it's ethical or not is your future coaching candidates. They are the ones who have to believe that the organization - their possible employer - is ethical, and this whole clusterfuck isn't helping Ross' case for that at all.
Regardless of who is and isn't the leader, why does it matter? They are both worthy of the same treatment. And just because something "hasn't happened" much doesn't make it any more unethical. It's funny. A player plays poorly and he gets cut after they find a replacement. But if a coach coaches poorly and you are out shopping for his replacement it's a different scenario.
1) Ok... you think they are, I (and many others) don't... end of story. We must have different measures of judgment on how to fire personnel. 2) That's true but it does kind of raise a question mark as to why it hasn't happened much... since HCs get canned every year.
1 is the root of the argument You and many others have a different judgment. Not based on logic, but based on the status quo. Sorry if I can't do that.
