Yup I want a GM that could manage the cap and evaluate talent by all accounts idzik was jist a cap guy and nothing else You could say it's to early to judge his drafts but his drafts have been pretty bad
Cap management and contracts are complicated. Getting rid of that cap space was a considerable accomplishment and he left the org in good shape better than when he came aboard. And that includes talent.
I'm not gunna keep going on about it he's gone get over it If he was so good he would be hired by another team looking for a GM
Woody has shown he is being thorough and meticulous in this process. He's brought on two footba minds, one who has been intricately involved with the training and selection of front office personnel for the past several years. Not much more you can ask of the guy. NY media is what it is. If you can't handle having more than 2 people at your press conference, this isn't the job for you. But the same could be said for LA, Chicago or Philly. Everyone's making assumptions about Marone. Maybe he really wasn't liked in Buffalo. We all know Mehta is trash but that doesn't meant he story is false. Nor do we know why he'd have an "agenda" against Marone in the first place. The process is going as well as I could have possibly hoped. Woody is taking his time and interviewing all the top guys sho are available. Excellent job.
Heh. So I guess Mac only has half a brain, if that. My real point in bringing back this issue is that the whole idea of firing Idzik's being an adverse situation on the GM search seems to have been based on nothing. As I thought so at the time. Meanwhile I have checked, and there has been no news on Idzik since he got fired. And that means no news about someone else hiring him. It's been two weeks since Ryan and Idzik were fired. Seems like about the right timeline for replacing them. It's all good.
Idzik will never get another GM job in the NFL. Ever. I am wondering if all the people who were so quick to jump on our movement and talk about how we would scare away qualified candidates will come in to this thread and not only apologize, but thank us for our efforts.
I think Woody made an absolute genius move to hire Casserly and Wolf to help him. Not only did they bring experience to every interview, but I whole heartedly trust Casserly and Wolf in an interview over Woody. It took a lot for Woody to do this. I give him props. He could have easily repeated his same bullshit, but he went about this the correct way. Maybe this is the start of Woody changing. One can only hope
Since presumably you are able to read, do you see the second part of that sentence you bolded - "and other options on the table"? Is there anyone else offering Maccagnan the GM position besides us? Has he done anything in the past that would suggest he would be a hot commodity for that position in the future? The guy comes from a mediocre run NFL team and in the 3 years he has run their scouting department, this is what their drafts look like (2012-2014): http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/htx/draft.htm Yeah, I am sure teams are just lining up outside his door.
Yeah, and the other team hired Ryan Pace, who along with Chris Ballard, whom they were also considering, both rejected the Jets. Among a bunch of other candidates.
Given the fact that only two teams were looking for GM's does it seem all that crazy he didn't have other options? Seems like you're grasping at straws with this complaint.
The point is Maccagnan has not done anything noteworthy to be an attractive GM candidate. Everyone who was a more attractive GM candidate turned the Jets down, e.g. Pace, Ballard, DeCosta, etc. If there were more than two teams looking for GMs this year (or next year or the year after that), only ones as desperate for a GM as the Jets would bring in someone like Maccagnan based on his current record of achievement. Nothing grasping about that, just basic facts.
It's amazing how wrong you are in your posts in this thread. It hurts to read it. You KNOW he got the job b/c he's Casserly's buddy, huh? I didn't know you sat in during the meetings, or did Casserly text you himself. Fact is you're speculating. You don't jack sh*t about why he was hired or whether he's qualified or not. And regarding your earlier posts about Woody Johnson being one of the worst owners in sports, again you know nothing. I can name 5 other owners much MUCH worse than Woody (who is actually an average owner). Sterling, Snyder, Al Davis, Wilpon, and the fraud guy who owned the Islanders.
2 things. 1) what exactly are the noteworthy things you're expecting to see in a gm candidate? 2) wtf are the jets supposed to do about candidates turning down interviews, most of whom have a history of turning everyone down?
So is that your greatest accomplishment in life. Getting a guy fired. And hoping he never gets another job for the rest of his life.
