After Thursday’s debacle I was watching Jets postgame live with Bart Scott who is a very smart guy on there breaking the game down and specifically pointing out how the problems with the defense. It got me wondering does a Rex Ryan defense win that game in the end and not let mayfield basically drive down the field constantly with ease without making any adjustments. Yes I know Rex had his share of 4th quarter collapses (Miami in 09 on Monday night and Denver with Tebow in 11 come to mind) but I think in that spot he would have come up with something to stop him. I was a very pro Rex Ryan guy despite all his flaws I think his guys played hard for him and he was much better a defensive coach then bowels. What do you guys think?

You give Rex Sam Darnold and not a dolt like Sanchez and we win the Super Bowl in 2009

I read that Darnold is on pace to break the rookie int. record of 28 set by Manning in 1998.

What kind of thread is this! Do those Mr. Clean Erasers really work! I don't know! What I do know is Kris Jenkins blew out his knee again in The New Dump "home opener" in 2010 against the Ravens! Rex Ryan couldn't find his way out of a paper bag in that game! The Jets lost 10-9 and the Jets are still homeless! So there's your answer, you idiot!

There may be a scintilla of truth to that.

Rex had no clue with offense either. Jets didn't lose because the defense failed, they lost because the offense only scored 3 points in the second half and the defense was on the field for almost the entire half. Rex wouldn't have changed much. There were tons of games in the Rex era that were the same.

I also read Pat Mahomes is on pace to set a new TD record. Breaking Mannings 55 TDs set in 2013

And to boot don't think the Rex era had their share of stinkers like Thursday night that shared similarities from past regimes... with super conservative playcalling, *waves hi at Heimerdinger, Hackett, RIP Sporano, Schottenheimer*....need I go on??

(Hell I think I went into the HERM era too)....geez....

The Browns game reminded me of Rex Ryan football. Play conservative, handcuff your QB the whole game then expect him to win at the end, play for the field goal lead and depend on your defense, then completely fail because you are a loser. THAT'S JETS FOOTBALL! Let's go eat a snack.

I don't think the game would have gone that much differently. Rex would have dialled up the same aggressive blitz at the end of the Dolphins game that saw Gore get big yardage too.

You could not be anymore wrong, Sanchez played pretty damn good in the AFC Championship, it was the defense that lost us the Super Bowl trip.

    Statements like this are absurd.

Rex was better than Bowles, and Darnold has shown nothing that he is better than Sanchez.

People forget it was not Sanchez's fault we didnt reach the Super Bowl. Sanchez had us up 11 points, the defense and special teams fell apart. If the rest of the Jets played like the Saints did against the Colts, the Jets are playing in the Super Bowl. Saints held them to 17 points and had a pick 6 and an onside kick. If Sanchez had that against Indy, its game over and he would have been the first Rookie QB in Super Bowl, oh and we would have beat the Saints....

We win this game with Rex no doubt imo.

Rex gave rookie QB's fits, and he didn't coach scared.
He would've pressured the shit out of Mayfield in his first start, and forced mistakes.
Instead we sat back playing soft defense until we lost.

Sanchez looked like dog shit against Pitt until they had enough lead to back off the pressure.
He put up a net of 10 pts (considering he fumbled away a TD).
That doesn't get it done in the playoffs.

Depends on the situation. Rex likely doesn’t blow the 14-0 lead, but in a close game his defense likely gives it up at the end.
