Take Fields at #1? Not a chance after Monday’s game. If he likes Fields I could potentially see him trading the first overall pick Jimmy Johnson style.
In 2012, Luck was the best QB to come out on years, but Russell Wilson was the better career, yeah Luck better prospect, but did not sniff a SB, retired early. So I suppose Lawrence is looked on in same light. Only time will tell...there are no guarantees... If Meyer thinks fields is the next Wilson, why not. If he thinks Lawrence is the next Manning then Lawrence will be #1. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
why not? because the owner of the jags can see ticket sales if they pick lawrence . if meyer tells khan that he won't draft trevor, he doesn't get hired. clemson is a lot closer to j-ville than ohio state. plus, the last ohio state qb to win an nfl championship was otto graham, 70 years ago!
Good points, if khan is all in on Lawrence would be hard for Meyer to take Fields... the article I posted earlier in the thread I posted mentioned that same point as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It will be interesting as the QBs go through the process this year. A lot at stake. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Meyer never coached Fields; the idea that he knows everything about him is like saying Meyer knows everything about Florida and Utah players because he coached there.
I remember hearing the same argument years ago when the Texans had the #1 pick and Reggie Bush was available. Khan may get a bump in ticket sales initially from Lawrence, but long term winning is what will put fans in the seat. Meyer was also a legendary Gator coach. He’s got enough cache to do whatever he wants down there.
I read an article a few days ago where Meyer said at the beginning of this season TL and Fields were even in talent with TL having the edge in experience as he has played more games. It left open a little doubt but I think that was the purpose of the article to create a story where there likely is none. Realistically, we have no chance that Meyer will not draft TL but Meyer's hire does give us the smallest hope that Meyer's giant unrestrained ego mixed with a poorly run organization will guide Jax into doing something epically stupid.
interesting thought, except khan has already stated he will be more hands-on. as we jet fans know all too well, the guy who owns the team can do whatever he wants.
Urban is college football royalty and coached for years in the SEC and Big Ten. I’m pretty sure he’s locked into almost all these major programs on far deeper level than anyone else in the league.
Who cares? This beast just declared. We're a little thin at the defensive tackle spot at only 3-4 deep. It's obvious where we're going with this pick.
If Meyers passes on Fields it’s gna speak similar volumes to when Bill O passed on Hackenbrrg and we drafted him lol.
Put the shoe on the other foot and imagine if we had endured this entire brutal season, actually landed the #1 pick, and then took someone other than Lawrence. I think half the fanbase would charge the facility with axes.
I’m not a QB evaluator by a long shot, but lets hold back a bit on the TL to Luck comparison. Likewise on the Fields to Wilson comparison. That seems a bit rich to me.
Except the claim being made isn’t that he has insight across major NCAA programs, because that would make specifying Fields irrelevant; by your reasoning he would know just as much, possibly, about Lawrence. the claim is that he, for some reason, has some additional knowledge, beyond what he knows of other players, about Fields based on their Ohio State connection, which is meritless.
Jacksonville, the city and the team, want Lawrence. The mayor has already spoken on the influx of money Lawrence will bring. I'm willing to be that was the first thing that discussed with Meyer. He wouldn't be there if he wasn't in agreement on Lawrence.
