Does anyone actually think we did enough to overcome the Patriots?

DM, I havent read to much "we will kick the Pats ass twice" threads. In fact I have read just the opposite. Most are crying about the Pats off-season moves. Personally, I am not worried. You can put me in the "both games are going to be tough games for both teams" book.

If it was meaningless then why did Belichick act like a baby....that loss hurt him more than anyother loss he's had.

I was thinking this morning that Donte Stallworth must be pissed. He gets wooed by New England to sign an under-market contract for essentially one year of service, and then wakes up to find that his catches have suddenly been cut in half, and his contract incentives pushed a bit further from his reach.

Happy Monday, Donte! Look on the bright side:

    . . . . ummm. . . . . I'll get back to you on that.

Yeah, basically that's right. Don't take anybody's word here for it. Just read what the GMs around the league are saying. That NE is now so far ahead of any team in the NFL that they are on a plane all their own. Sure they can all get hurt. Didn't they have a ton of injuries last year and still almost get to the SB? We didn't close the gap at all, it widened.

Ususally the Offense is ahead of the Defense early in the year, so this could be a touigh start for us. The only upside is we have a lot of people returning from last year.

Pats: I hate 'em, but they are the team to beat. If we split with the Pats this year during the regular season, I will consider that very good.

The only thing I would have reccommended more than anything is either A. getting a top tier cornerback or B. getting adailius thomas(jus so the patriots wouldnt have him) But a top tier cornerback would help give us a fighting chance...

Thomas would have been huge for us but still wouldn't be all we need. The problem we have is that we have neither a dominant offense or dominat defense and now NE has both. It's not just us who fell behind them, every team in the league has.

Oh, I'll watch them. I always do but I won't go into this season thinking we are contenders for the SB. Some seasons I do, several in fact. Just won't be kidding myself this year.

Very good point. It had not occurred to me how much trouble incentives could cause in New England's locker-room. Maybe they will be having some interesting conflicts there.

I'll bet you they guarantee Stallworth's incentives if that's the case.

We have not gone into a season as a legitimate contender for a Super Bowl since 1999.

What I'd like to see is some year over year improvement and an entertaining show to watch. The Hackett-Martin years really killed the entertainment value of the Jets.

I thought we had a chance after Parcells took us to the Denver title game. I also thought we had a chance after Edwards almost got us that far. Same after the Cleveland Gastineau debacle. remeber, I said go into the season. None of those feelings lasted very long.

1999 was the year after the Denver title game. We were favored to get to the SUper Bowl that season.

There was no season in the Bradway/Herm era where we were favored to get to a Super Bowl.

Unfortunately, the Pats have become the Yankees. Lets hope the personality issues disrupt the team chemistry and everything falls apart. Otherwise, nobody is going to be able to compete with them.

I'm surprise that we were ever favored. What was the year that we started off 9-0 and somebody on NBC said we wouldn't win another game? And we didn't.:eek:hmy:

I have wanted to sign Moss for months. He would have closed the gap Its bad enough we did not get him , but with the Pats getting him along with what they have done, we are no longer competing for the division. We are a wild card team at best. I am bummed.

That was 1986. We started 10-1 and lost good players almost every week from mid-season on. Lance Mehl, Joe Klecko, Freeman McNeil, Mark Gastineau and Reggie McElroy. Ken O'Brien was increasingly beat up as the season progressed also. It was the Klecko injury in game 11 that prompted the famous prognostication that the Jets would not win another game. That prognostication was WRONG as the Jets won a first round playoff game against Kansas City.

I'm thinking it may have been Jimmy the Greek who said it.
