By adding Aaron Rodgers the Jets go from an old clunker to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Whether they actually fly into Gillette Stadium and buzz Belichick remains to be seen. But, I can assure you it would be one helluva ride and one that I'd sign up for up in a minute. Bang, Bang.
That remains to be seen. But our FAs and potential moves are: DLine Sheldon Rankins Solomon Thomas Nathan Shepard Vinny Curry Cuts - maybe Lawson or a renegotiation, and a top 5 contract on tap for Quinnen. Linebacker Kwon Alexander Quincy Williams Bryce Huff Cuts - Maybe Mosley for contract reasons. Both Alexander and Williams were on "show me" contracts and each earned at least 3X what they made last season, which was 2.2 million combined. Saftey Lemarcus Joiner Basically more than half of our defense could turnover while becoming more expensive. We don't have good depth in our front 8, and were very lucky our defense stayed mostly healthy last year. OLine George Fant Conner McGovern Herbig Remmers Feeney Cuts - maybe Tomilson, maybe Brown? This is HUGE. We can bitch about QB but in our last three games we started Wilson, White, and Flacco and we scored 3, 6, and 6 points. The o-line had at least as much to do with that as our QBs. QBs/RBs Mike White Ty Johnson James Robinson Joe Flacco Special Teams Both kickers need replacement Wide Receivers cuts could include Davis and Berrios. Mims and Moore are here but have one foot out the door. Its really hard to say at this point what our roster will look like, and how they will perform next season.
We will also be getting back some big impact players like AVT and Breece Hall. I honestly don't see the roster being worse than last year's. Most likely it will be better, especially if they sign a QB.
Is there a better quarterback than Aaron Rodgers that may become available? Fuck the baggage he brings... he's a Hall of Fame QB that can still sling it. He would elevate the Jets to a level we haven't seen in decades.
Please refrain from using that fraud baseball players' moniker when discussing the HOF QB. That said, no, he doesn't make us a SB contender per se, but as others have said, he makes us a playoff team. I'm certain of that. After that, who knows? He also makes Garrett Wilson a brighter star than he's already becoming. Let's see what "AR" does with Elijah and even Jeremy Ruckert. We know he can elevate a TE. I'm on board for this to happen. Regarding trading away pick 13, I hope our shrewd GM avoids that. I know he'll damn well try not to. It's great that we took it to the Packers and played them when we did. Aaron was complimentary towards us afterwards, and if he's weighing his options I believe in his mind he respects the talent we have here now. That could wind up being a franchise altering victory in a subtle way.
How good will Breece be though? When Barkley came back from his injury it took a couple of years before he got back to his elite level of play. It might take Breece a year or two to do the same thing.
Not sure if he will be the same as he was when he went down but he will be better than what we had after he went down.
The lack of roster depth and unproven coaching makes a Super Bowl run unlikely, although still possible if several things fall into place. Acquiring Rodgers will certainly cost the Jets draft capital, which will make stocking the remaining shelves all that more difficult. The investment in Rodgers will be recouped regardless with increased ticket sales and higher prices, so Woody is covered here no matter what. Of course, this is contingent on a 40 year old QB remaining healthy behind what will once again be a revamped OL. Although some (such as ex-Giant great Tiki Barber) have expressed concern about how Rodgers will handle the local media, the more interesting story is how AR will handle the delusional political climate in the NY/NJ area. Now that may be worth the inflated price of admission alone. Enough with the bullshit teasers and the dicking around, time to get on with the show.
I counted 4 starters who aren’t under contract next year. I think we need to define “notable” moving forward.
If you have a chance to add Aaron Rodgers you do it. Every player on that team instantly gets better with a veteran quarterback under center. A consistent offense would have vaulted the Jets into the post season this year. Rodgers gives you that and maybe a shot at the whole enchilada.
Rodgers would be the best move given that he wouldn't be counted on for more than 2 years, during which time Zach could be learning under his "idol". That said, I wouldn't give up anything more than a 2nd this year and maybe a conditional 1st next year if he leads us to the SB; a lesser pick of it's to the AFCCG; a still lesser pick if he just gets us to the playoffs; and no future pick(s) if he retires after this year. As far as does he guarantee us a SB? No. Even KC isn't guaranteed that with Mahomes. But if you get to the dance, you never know, you might wind up with the Prom Queen when the music stops. If we don't get Rodgers, I'm leaning towards Tannehill if they can get him relatively cheap. He'd likely be able to give us 2 good years at least, and could also serve to allow Zach to sit and learn. I won't jump off a cliff if they sign Carr, but I have mixed emotions about whether he's the right fit for us.
The answer to this question is nobody knows. Nobody knew the Eagles would come up just short of a championship this year. All you want is a legit shot. And yes, they will have that
Again..you add a Super Star and pair him with a bottom barrel Head Coach RS>>>>Fools Gold. OTOH, Denver added S Payton to get R Wilson going >>>Hitting the Bullseye. And thats where the idiot Woody missed out (keeping the loser CS we have who we make marginal progress with) Did you all watch the second half of the SB? Andy Reid coached circles around Nick Sirrianni and NS is an improvement over Robert Saleh lmao Nathanial Hackett with Rogers will help us win some games true...But that remains to be seen if it happens at all
