But it's not the SOJ mentality. Just because I think our QB position is inherently flawed doesn't mean I have a doomsday mentality. I think the team has a world of potential...with a good QB. He's just not it. I hope he proves me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath. I like the young potential on the team (Kerley, McKnight, Wilson, Wilkerson, Slauson) to go along with our rock solid veterans (Harris, Revis, Mangold, Brick). I think we have players we can build around, and I think we have young guys who can step up. I also think we have some solid role players mixed in (Devito, Pouha, Maybin if he resigns, Westerman, etc.). Sure, there are number of players that I would give back if given the chance to and take a do-over (Sanchez, Holmes, and Keller stand out to me right now), but the team certainly has potential. Doesn't make me a sunshiner or a SOJ darksider. I just call the team how I see it. I think Sanchez is a run-of-the-mill QB. Could be improve? Of course. I just don't think it will be enough, and I'm surprised if anyone thinks he's worth the money, let alone a 1st round pick in a deal.

Oh god yes. Our 1st and 2nd down stats would look like our third down stats, which are among the best. Knowing teams would be passing more to keep up improves the pass rush and forces defenses to attack the strength of our team. Teams that rely on top WRs wouldn't stand a chance.

What conditions did I make? I compared the players in their respective periods, and made some assumptions on how this team would be different with Favre. I do/did not deny that Holmes was a huge problem this year. On a talent basis, Holmes is clearly the better option over 2008 Cotchery. With Favre as QB, same. If your point was that you'd rather have had 2008 Cotchery over 2011 Holmes on THIS team with Sanchez as QB, I don't disagree. Although I don't think we're any more competitive in the passing game, as that makes up a pretty bad group with a Weak #1, Weak #2, Rookie #3. I'm saying they wouldn't exist if "Brett Favre 2008" had been the quarterback, because every reason that made an asshole out of him wouldn't exist. He'd have been paid, he'd have been the clear #1 option on a pass first team with a QB that could get him the ball anywhere on the field, and probably throw 10 picks trying to force balls he shouldn't. Holmes would meet his performance incentives.
It wouldn't matter if the Jets Got Arron Rodgers, Tom Brady , or Troy akman in his prime we would still suffer these terrible outcomes. If the Jets went after Peyton, keeping Sanchez probably wouldn't be an option. That means, assuming he gets the 18M his original deal was to average, he has to be 9 million better than Sanchez, not 20. Even if there's a luxury to lure him, say he makes 22 million, it's 13. Cutting Sanchez or trading him for a sack of footballs and some eye black saves $9.2 million off the cap.

Since you wouldn't have mentioned those conditions unless you felt they strengthened your point. Let me add another condition. Both teams faltered when those two QBs injured their throwing motion a little more than halfway through the season. Fuck Holmes and fuck his incentives. Only players that have love for the game win those big games. His love for the game decreased as his wallet increased. *sigh* Sanchez is too inconsistent. He's been like this since day one. It's been three years now and his QB rating is still under 79. If it wasn't for the defense that we had, I don't think he would have won more than a 1/4 of his games. It's time to move on. I'm not for Manning. What we need is some young buck who's hungry. Is there anybody in the early rounds of the draft we could go after that might be good enough for us to take? I'm not too knowledgable when it comes to college football.
I am a bigger Sanchez backer than most, but if Manning is healthy I would take him over #6 for sure. The problem is Manning is not healthy. If he somehow is by March, we will see, but he will be a huge risk with Wayne Hunter protecting him.
