    Smith doesn't deserve anything.

I think Vick could be a good mentor for Geno. Vick didn't cause any problems when he was benched in Philly for Foles. Vick I think would tell Geno for sure not to take anything for granted in this league. Geno also looks up to Vick so it could add a little motivation for Geno to improve his game.

If Vick could sign a 2 yr 6 million dollar contract (something cheap and extremely cap friendly) then sign me up and cut MS while you are at it.

Kind of always liked Vick, despite the issues with Dogs in the past, people need to let that shit go. We are talking about improving the football team.

Agreed 100%. At the absolute least, Vick can be a backup for Smith. He served as a good resource for Foles last year, and there's reason to believe that he will accept the role if the competition is legitimate and he loses out to Smith.

Yes/No If the penalty fits the crime then yes. Sadly the only states that believe a domesticated animals life is worth as much as a humans only apply the law
    to police dogs.

Murder without a reason of self defense
    Child rapist
Crimes committed against those unable to defend them selves.

These come to mind when i think of unforgivable un payable debts to society.

He wants to start - believes he can beat out Smith -- he isn't going to mentor anything.

If the QB competition is legitimate and he wins, Vick should start. No quarrels from me.

I would prefer seeing the same competition with Smith and Sanchez -- so much less drama.

I agree with your sentiment as it is the same as mine on Smith, however if the jets feel that he can succeed, then it's I their best interest to help him succeed, there are many ways that can be done and one of them is, bring in a vet who knows the system and help him learn it.

    I feel your pain.

Still, no to Vick. It's just a bad strategy.

The majority of sports media will be hooting and hawing about whomever is in the competition. It's proper to characterize that as noise (literally and statistically).

Although I do like Vick, I'm not particularly tied to him being on the Jets. Either Sanchez or Vick (or both) would provide adequate, possibly good, competition. The cost of Sanchez's opportunity to start should be the restructuring of his current contract. Similarly, the cost of Vick's chance should be an incentive-laden contract.

And, of course, whomever legitimately wins should start. No arguments from me on that.

Meh. that might be true in some other situation, but I think Marty is a much bigger factor on training any Qb. A competent OC will be much more instrumental than a vet Qb who at least to some extent wants the same job.

More to the point, with Marty there the Jets don't really need Vick.

If Smith fails to succeed with Marty as OC, it won't be because they didn't sign Michael Vick.

Get used to media criticism no matter what the Jets do at this point. The opportunity to avoid media criticism in hindsight probably left the station when Chicago signed Cutler to a new deal. Of the theoretical, albeit not practical, options the Jets faced coming out of the 2013 season, that was probably the only avenue that would have garnered respect around the league. Why is that?

Because the Jets had both Sanchez and Smith, two Qb's neither of whom were (and still are not) respected. Before that it goes back to the Tebow Circus. People reflexively laugh at the Jets since that shitshow was brought to town. You have to break their laugh reflex. It's like watching a slapstick comedy show, if you are already giddy with laugter, it won't take much to get you to laugh again.

The Jets followed Tebow by keeping Sanchez on the roster, signing Garrard, who did he even put a uniform on?, drafting a questionable pick in Smith, prcceeded to have a mostly inconclusive, if shaded toward Muck, training camp, and then dialed the laugh meter up again by Rex playing Sanchez in the Giants game. They then were forced to take the field with an unprepared rookie who was the worst starting Qb in the league. The audience was roaring with laughter at that point.

    Why should they stop now?

I respect Vick's talent, but even the talk of him coming to the Jets has people chuckling. And counting on Smith to be a quality NFL Qb this season? I think that's pretty funny myself, except my eyes tearing up thinking about it might not be from laughter.

In all seriousness, I am not sure what short term solution the Jets can pursue to avoid being laughed at. Might as well expect that, suck it up and take it. If you want to be a Jet fan and are going to pay atention to this sort of thing, you really have no other choice.

    I had to say no...

This just adds to the circus if they bring him to town. If you want to wipe the smug smirks off people's faces and silence the laughter then, if you are Idzik, you pull off what you need to to land one of the top three QB's in this draft. Anything less than that and we go into this season with people muttering under their breath as usual. Of course...even that might not stop them from laughing now that we have totally screwed the pooch on the CB front with Cro' out of the picture. <sigh> not sure what to think at this point.

I get the feeling that Idzik doesn't give a fuck what anyone in the media says.

Don't think that we disagree. It's mostly noise out there.

Ugh, no thanks. While I'm over the dog controversy, I don't want Vick on the team. This isn't Vick from 2004. Can't read defenses, poor decisions on the field that lead to turns overs, still doesn't know how to slide after 10 years in the league and there's a 99.99% chance he's going to get hurt and not finish the season anyways in which we'll all be saying Geno should have started from the get-go. ....no please......just, just no
