Bring him in. He'd be a good low risk-potentially high reward signing. Rex has spent five years winning games, or breaking even, with poor quarterback play. It's exciting to think of what he could do with a legit NFL quarterback running his offense.

He's so injury-prone and is a turnover machine. Do we really need the weekly anxiety watching him get pummeled 5-6 per game??

I think the Jets' emphasis on defense and the running game could be good for Vick. Being a Russell Wilson type "game manager" for a team that isn't all about lighting up the scoreboard could help him rein in the dangerous tendencies that lead to turnovers and injuries.

Hm. You really think that is likely?

Imo Vick did change up his game to a significant extent while on the Eagles. Sure, his first full season starting for the Eagles, 2010, he still ran the ball 100 times for the season. But the next year, that number went down to 76 in 13 starts. Earlier in Atlanta he ran the ball more than 100 times every yaer he started other than his third year, 2003, when he broke his leg in pre-season and ended up only starting 4 games.

Of course Vick has been injured a few times since joining the Eagles, and whether it is the injuries or coaches encouraging him to be a pocket passer, he is not the same take off first Qb he was in Atlanta. A key metric, completion percentage, also showed he moved up from a low fifties average while in Atlanta to a high fifties, near sixty, average with Philly, although that number did go down last year in his abbreviated season. And that metric improved not at the cost of ypa, as his average in Philly of 7.7 was a full yard per attempt improvement over his time in Atlanta.

In short, I think Vick has already changed his game approach and style of play.

The problem is he kept getting injured despite doing so.

Can he change again, and become a significantly more conservative Qb?

In theory, yes, but at some point you have to wonder two things. ONe is whether the injuries have already caught up to him, and no amount of change in style will prevent him from taking any hits whatsoever. He's fragile, and a change in style can only try to minimize, and not eliminate, the risk of injury.

The second is at some point you emasculate his positives so much, why bother?

If the story here is true about vick wanting Geno to give up his number then Vick can go the hell on. To recap myself from earlier the guy is a scumbag, but he would be a ok "BACKUP". I could live with him sitting there and giving football advice for a year or two with the occasional relief appearence, but if he's worrying about his fucking number than that spells M.E.S.S for us. Leave his ass out there in limbo and we roll the dice with the kids again. I was teetering back and forth before on what we do with Sanchez but if this is his attitude I say we just negotiate Sanchez's number down and keep his ground ball throwing, hot dog eating ass around a little longer. Fuck Vick, seriously.

To be perfectly honest, I don't want him on this team if he's getting a chance to compete.

Curious as to why this is?

If Vick beats Geno, he was clearly better than Geno and the best option for us to win. If Vick loses, Geno was better and gives us the best option to win.

Why would Vick starting be a bad thing? If he was given the starting job as soon as he got here, then fine, I'd be pissed too, but he will compete for it. Whoever wins that competition is our best option at QB, so why is that a bad thing?

I see your logic and agree to an extent.

I actually think Vick could beat Geno in a QB comp. He'll get the starting position. I'd give him about 3-5 games before he gets injuryed and we're putting Geno in anyways. It's like the that movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray, remember? He kept waking up and the same day kept repeating itself. It's like that with Vick each year. Like clockwork dude is going to get injuryed, just because of his style of play and poor on-field decisions. Still doesn't know how to properly slide when he scrambles (which causes turn overs and/or him getting destroyed) and he's never been too great at reading defenses. I've seen this episode before with Vick. I personally rather go into next season with him as a backup if we do sign him, which seems like we are.

I am on board with bringing in Vick as a backup. While I'm sure he could beat Geno in a competition in training camp, I am not confident enough in his ability to stay healthy to risk taking away games and valuable experience from Geno.

Russell Wilson has found a way to be a playmaker in a ball control offense that's more conservative than any Vick played with in Philly, so yeah, I do think it's possible to rein in Vick a bit more without making his talents irrelevant.

Also, Vick played in 10-13 games for Philly in every season except 2013, when he was supplanted as starter after getting hurt. Having a functional QB for 10-13 games could be the difference between making the playoffs or not.

No, but the chickens that my mcnuggets are made from are locked in cages so tight that they literally can't take a step forward or even turn their head around. They get force fed grains that isn't even a part of their natural diet. If that was done to a dog, they would be arrested so fast their head would spin.

Vick was also hurt in 2012, lost his starting job to Foles, and only came back for the last game because Foles got hurt.

I understand your point, but I have posted elsewhere a likely scenario where Vick in fact does help the Jets play up to a playoff entry record, but gets hurt and then they have to start Smith who had been sitting on the bench the whole time. In short that is not a recipe for post season success.

My main objection to Vick going to the Jets is it will most likely not get the team any closer to figuring out what to do with Smith. Couple that with Vick's injury history and Vick is not even a season long prospect, let along a medium term option at Qb. If Vick is signed, I can see us sitting here a year from now not knowing any better what to do about Smith.

Vick apparently cares more about rocking the #7 jersey then getting an actual job.

Hmmm what issues might this cause down the road? Nothing worse then a malcontent.

I highly doubt Vick gives a shit about his number. I'm pretty sure he is more focused on signing a contract for a high amount of money.

Another dumb ass article with "anonymous" sources

I know it's the BS media and I really should not believe them. I hope it's not legit because I would like Vick to come here and help Geno (or start).

I don't want to believe them at all - it's out there, I hope it's not true.

We know Vick changed in regards to Dogs, but that doesn't mean he didn't change other parts of his lifestyle.
