do you think that devin smith can reach his potential with fitz at QB?

I am totally ready to see Enunwa make a big leap, make it to a totally dependable 3rd option. Only problem is I wonder if he has the hands for the job.

It all depends upon what you view as his "potential"

I think the Jets made a terrible decision drafting Smith where they did, and that he will not amount to much in the NFL.
So from my view point he can reach his potential with Fitz.

Not sure exactly what his potential is, if any.

Gailey and the brain trust need to find better ways to get Smith the ball with Fitz at QB. He doesnt throw a good deep ball. So utilize Smith's game breaking speed in other ways. Run some drag routes and bubble screens with him.

if devin is going to reach his potential it will me by expanding his game to run more then 9 routes, in that regard, fitz being limited and forcing smith to expand his route tree may be a blessing

its not that hes "isnt making all the throws" its that he struggles EVERYTIME he throws a deep ball, and in todays NFL if you do not have a deep threat you are in trouble (unless you are NE). hence why they drafted devin smith in the first place. I acknowledged already that fitz has a ton of good qualities but every time he throws deep its a duck. and Im worried that it could effect D.smith long term, as I believe he can be an great weapon on O. especially since marshall is older and wont be around forever.

Well maybe we would be better off with a QB with a big arm.

Heres a list of some of the biggest arm QB's in the NFL, how are they looking this season?..

    Colin Kapernick
    Brandon Weeden
    Jay Cutler
    EJ Manuel
    RGIII
    Derek Anderson
    Mike Glennon
    Ryan Mallett
    Matthew Stafford

No, his arm is weak and he doesn't have good enough timing to hit Devin all the time. A good comparison for Devin is Torrey Smith.

The entire question is kind of irrelevant because we don't have a QB on the roster right now who would be a lot of support in helping Devin Smith reach his potential. All the current options have flaws somewhere in their makeup. Petty is probably the closest but he's 2 years out, maybe. Maybe not an NFL QB either.

Who exactly is better than Kerley besides Marshall and Decker?

i don't think Fitz is currently holding Smith back so much as injuries and inexperience are.

beyond this season, maybe having a guy like Fitz would limit Smith's upside and ROI tho..

Smith was drafted with the thought process that Geno was going to be throwing to him. He's really wasted with RF as the QB.
You can see the frustration in the kids face last game when he couldn't get any passes thrown his way that were catchable balls.

Arm strength has always been the single most overrated attribute of an NFL quarterback. I'll write it again and again:

By far, the two most important characteristics a good NFL quarterback must possess are good decision making and accuracy.

Most QBs have flaws but the flaws are all different, and that's irrelevant to the question. Geno and Petty both have good enough arms to make good use of Devin Smith. Fitz lacks the arm and/or anticipation.

But having none takes a whole dimension away from our offense. Smith had his DB beat for a TD but Fitzpatrick couldn't throw the ball far enough to lead him.

Smith is useless with Fitzpatrick at the helm. Kerley proved today he is more valuable as a third WR option.

Not knocking Smith, but his biggest asset is the long ball, and we know Fitz is incapable of throwing it. He can get on the field more if he learns intermediate and short routes.
