Knowing how the NFL operates, Saleh, JD and Rodgers will be given the option to hang around and run back the 2008 Brett Favre script in 2024. Unfortunately, that's the best we can hope for with the current cast of characters, who have succeeded in playing a role which has cast a dark shadow over this organization. Putting false hope aside, hard to believe the NFL has the Jets penciled in as Super Bowl victors anytime soon.
I wasn't saying Douglas won't get another GM job if he fires Saleh and gets fired here, that goes without saying. I was saying that if he fires Saleh and gets fired here, he'll have a hard time even getting his old Eagles role back with another team because teams will view him someone who points fingers instead of taking responsibility for his mistakes.
Well once AR went down week 1 I was thinking both JD and Saleh are guaranteed back next year to show what this team was “supposed” to look like. But as bad as it’s been, I’m not going to say guaranteed any more. Yes, I think they will be back, especially if AR does come back and win one or two games this year…the talk track will be exactly that…hey, we’ll fix the OL, we’ll get a receiver or two, and just watch what we can do with AR back next year. I still think that’s the most likely scenario. However … as bad as we are going, and with this offense struggling to put up even 10 points per game, it could get much uglier over the next 6 games…we can easily lose ALL of them. That will be some kind of ugly. Just thinking of the media push…worst 3rd down conversion rate in 50 YEARS. Can’t score 10 points per game. It can and very likely will get ugly. And if it gets ugly enough, who knows what Woody will do…he’s not the smartest guy in the room and he’s been swayed by public opinion before (though sadly not in the times when he SHOULD have listened to the public voice…like in hiring Gase when NO ONE thought that was a good idea)….but I could easily see him making some moves…whether it’s Saleh, JD, or both…if the shit REALLY hits the fan
Idk it depends on how this thing ends. I thought nobody could get fired since Rodgers injury was a built in excuse. Now I’m not sure since they are falling apart hard
Same. Any competent organization would see the writing on the wall and take some sort of action. Something. But the Jets are not a competent organization. If they do make drastic moves, you can rest assured they will be the wrong ones that pin the blame in the wrong place.
I apologize if this has been asked and answered but it seems as if Saleh is an observer during the game rather than an active participant. You don't see him talking to the players or "upstairs" and rarely does he engage the officials. Am I missing something here?
The only quibble I have with this is saying "...he left Saleh and the defense hanging out to dry again." If I'm reading this right, you're saying Saleh has no culpability for the QB mess? Because Saleh is the HC, not DC, and he has responsibility for the whole team, including the offense, and including the QB. HIs hiring of a rookie OC to pair with a rookie QB set the wheels of this train wreck in motion. Sure, maybe it was dictated to him, and he had no say whatsoever, but it's hard to believe he would have no input on the "O" side, including who plays QB. I've given Douglas the benefit of the doubt up until now, but this mess is on him. And I'd love to have a really good, experienced GM replace him, but where do you find those? Wherever that is, you can bet Woody couldn't find one. But I'm at the point where I don't care. Fire the whole lot of them and start over - AGAIN!. But I won't get my hopes up as long as Woody is in charge and doing the hiring and controlling things. He's the cancer that's incurable.
It certainly looked like he was "checked out". He certainly looked like a guy with no answers. That bodes ill for the rest of the season (not there's anything to really hope for anyway).
Yes, I misunderstood your post. And I agree with you. Given how insular and incestuous the NFL is, he likely wouldn't get another job in the NFL if he hangs Saleh out to dry. HIs best bet would be to fire Saleh and then resign himself.
I was working based on Saleh's most recent comments/attitude. While Saleh is not exempt; he IS the head coach and signed up for this, it is quite clear that a few things have been dictated TO him. Which, I would think, is par for the course with this franchise over the last 20 years or so. Since Woody bought the team. It "feels" like our head coaches are more figure heads. It "feels" like our head coaches do not have the same input/power that other coaches do with their teams. Maybe my perception is wrong but I don't think so. I'd be interested in what others have to say on the topic. It's ONE of the reasons it's so difficult for this team to hire a GOOD established head coach. I know it's been discussed on these boards every single time they go hunting for a head guy. Their hiring process is more board room than football and this is how we end up where we are. Bill Parcells was the LAST and ONLY established HC to come through Weeb Ewbank Hall and he was at the VERY END of HOF coaching career at that point. Every other head guy has been a coordinator or position guy. The Sean Payton's, of the world wouldn't touch a team like ours if you backed up the Brinks truck. Why? Because they know their BRAND would be destroyed with how the franchise runs its' operations. The only PROMISING candidate the franchise has had, other than Bill, was Pete Carroll and they fired him after only one year and we all know what he was clearly capable of. My guess is Belly knew this which is why he did what he did. JD needs to be gone for utterly and totally dismissing the importance of the o-line and it's depth. We are 3 deep on the DL in some places but barely have one solid starting o-line rotation. That alone should cost him his job but it won't. Probably another reason why Saleh will be back next year...the franchise knows they will never be able to replace him with anyone with any type of experience. We'll be crap shooting a H.C. just like we are at QB.
Same here. They showed something by beating the eagles, then again went into the bye and came out in crash mode. From what I have seen the last 2 weeks, things aren’t good internally
Exactly. This is why hoping for Harbaugh is a pipedream (not that I believe he could turn this garbage scow of a franchise around anyway). No HC - or promising HC - worth his reputation will come here. I'd be willing to bet that Daboll actually was asked to interview but smartly declined. It really boils down to either Woody selling the team, or he somehow becomes desperate enough to remove himself from any and all input...highly unlikely given what an attention seeking hound he is. I guess a third possibility is that the league impose a "manager" on the team as they did to the Giants at one time, but I'd put the odds of that between slim and none. So, unless something of that magnitude happens, I'll just tune out until, and if, the Jets ever become even competent.
Nah they interviewed him. They just moved right past him but the Giants are also up shits creek themselves.
