The problem with Jones at RT is he just isnt big enough, I know he can add the bulk but he still isnt a typical RT. Jones strength is his athleticism. He wont all of a sudden turn into a mauler even with the extra weight. We could have very good pass protecting with Jones + D'Brick at RT and LT. However if thats whats happening Jones needs to learn how to block bull rushers which he has never faced before. Also even if he gets that down well our run game would be horrible. We would be forced to run it up the middle on an o-line that still isnt great and the d's will catch on, our running game would be ugly.
I think Jones can do it as the LT, he didn't get much help from the rest of the oline, and that is the position where the individual can't do much without help from his other olinemen
then i remove my vote. i think Jones CAN play left tackle, he did it last year. I don't get it every sack we had last year wasn't because of Jones, and he isn't the reason our running game failed either. Everybody knew we were going to run because we had five different QB's and we were talking about the calling of herm and a guy who was just trying to install a new offense. I don't think Jones will just plop right inot RT either. When he played it his rookie year he seemed to have alot of trouble playing the position, he is certainly more suited for LT. I wouldnt be upset with drafting DBrick either, but if we do he will have to start immediatley, because unless we pickup some gem to play Rt, Jones will have to slide there. And as for now Anthony Clement is only regarded as a backup player, he could play if Jones was playing well though. I honestly would love to have Mario Williams. Though the jets have invested much money into the position and we do have Kimo (who I like), a tackle we could pick up later, we would probably be hard-pressed to find a Dlineman with more upside than Williams. While guys like McNeil, Eric Winston, Winston Justice, and others could slide to 29 or 35 and be there for us to take. I think We could live go either position ,which is why I think the Jets are in such a good position going into this draft. we realyl could go anyway way in this draft, and the players we've picked up in free agency has allowed this optino to pick the BPA.
The same way people overstate how well he did - it doesn't balance things out by understating either. He showed some potential and he got beat as well. It's what anyone would expect from a guy with the amount of experience that he had while playing on a dismal offense. AJones may wind up being a solid starter. He may not. What better time to find out then in a year in which expectations aren't very high? If he doesn't get it done this year then I feel it would make sense to replace him. Our best move IMO is to draft a guy who can start at RT immediately who has the potential to move to the left side after a year of seasoning. I have a feeling Eric Winston is that kind of guy - or Winston Justice if we somehow wind up trading down/up from one of our 1st rounders.
i like your thinking, but I would prefer Eric Winston. Winston JUstice can be a great tackle, but i actually think his character flaws will have him drop out of thr first round. Teams know that they can get quality lineman all throughout the draft, and they will not want to deal with immaturity at all.
