Not sure Matt. Hairband might just keep the ball away from Revis' side of the field all game long. I can see at least one pick in the game from Hairband. Maybe not a pick 6, but a pick never the less and more likely than not, a redzone pick.

This basically sums up my thoughts. The Jets are backwards with their approach to this competition. Sanchez should be the one that should have to outplay Geno. Instead it seems like Geno has to drastically outplay Mark. If Geno had a great showing against the Giants he might be the starter.

Funny you should say that. I was thinking the same thing. Sanchez only proved that he is who he is and what you see is what you're gonna get. If the Jets FO/CS can live with that, then drafting Geno was a waste of a pick. Frankly, I think Hairband gives us the best chance at a really nice DP. Perhaps one high enough to have a shot at TB if he's still on the board when we draft in '14.

I was hoping they could play Geno just to be sure they don't have to take another Qb in '14. Doesn't look like that's gonna happen.

i think that if it comes to the point where its looking like we are out of contention, we definitely put Geno in. If he absolutely sucks and we somehow are in a position to draft Teddy, I could see us taking him. Personally I dont see us being in that draft position... Marquise Lee or Sammy Watkins would be nice though.

You do realize that playing him that long is actually a strong sign that Sanchez is in very real danger of losing his starting spot? From you post apparently not. The likelihood now if Geno is healthy is that he gets 3 full quarters in game 3. If he plays better than Mark did tonight he is the starter.

I look at it from the pov that a new system has to be installed. The best chance for success is for the best personnel to execute that new system. That takes familiarity and repetition. They played Sanchez extended minutes to give him more time in the system. They could have easily put in Simms if they didn't think Sanchez could be "the man". Evidently, the Jet CS thought that Sanchez needed more real game experience in the new system so they gave it to him.

Again, RR is not gonna gamble his coaching future on a rookie unless that rookie plays like Brady or RGIII. So far, injury and the calendar is the biggest hurdles Geno has to overcome. Even if they start Geno next week, highly unlikely as it is, there's only 2 games left in the preseason before the curtain rises on 2013. Time is running out on Geno. The ankle injury was a bad break but that happens sometimes. Hairband will fck up at some point and Geno will get his shot. It just won't be the first game.

Honestly, if Rex ties himself to Sanchez's hip [again], then basically he is putting his coaching job on the line IMO. In this situation, its either playoffs or he cuts ties with Sanchez and puts Geno in who shows some promise or he's done. IMO, the only way Rex keeps his job with Sanchez as the starter the whole season is if they make the playoffs.

Geno is apparently Idzik's "guy", and if he sees that Rex is unwilling to cut ties with a (hypothetically) struggling QB in Sanchez, then there's no way Rex is sticking around.

Also, the reason why they practiced Geno this week was because of the installation of the offense. So in terms of learning the offense, Geno shouldnt be behind. I think who starts this upcoming game will be a big tell. If Sanchez starts, he's the unquestioned starter and the competition is over. If Geno starts, the competition is still somewhat open. Either way, if Geno wants to still have a chance, he is going to need a very good week of practice followed by a very good game.
