The CS is giving Sanchez every opportunity they possibly can. Even playing Hairband almost into the 4th qtr. They could have played Simms but elected not to.

It will take a miracle for Geno to win this job at this point. Its getting late in the preseason and the team has to solidify its leadership position and start to fine tune MM's system. There's very little time left for experimentation. By default, Sanchez will be the starter.

I think mediocre is being generous. Outside of a few throws to some wide open receivers on the first drive (yes, they were good throws though), he was pretty damn bad. And this is vs Jacksonville.

    He solidified nothing.

They didnt give him the opportunity to throw in the redzone the last two drives. Idk, I just do not think Sanchez solidified anything today. All he proved was that he is still incredibly inconsistent. Id say there's an 80% chance he's the starter week 1 though. I do not feel confident at all about him starting though.

I agree, he's been more shit than mediocre but the CS will consider it "Mediocre"

It wasn't Hairband's shining moment true, but he's the incumbent and the reality is, the DC/HC wants him to start and will give him the benefit of the doubt. Tie will go to the veteran in this case. Unless Hairband completely shits the bed next week, the job is his to lose at this point.

I dont know why the HC would want him to start, but I agree most defensive coordinators will prefer Sanchez starting out there :)

All Geno needs is a strong game the next few weeks. And he can start.

Sanchez is like 13/23 for 163 yards with 1 TD, 1 INT something like that for now.

    That is terrible...

What makes you think Geno will start next week? I think Geno MIGHT see some action in the 2nd half of next week's game, but he won't start. Hairband will get the start and most likely, the majority of the reps this week too. The team needs to start getting ready for the real season and there's not a lot of time left for Geno. Damn shame the kid rolled an ankle but those are the breaks sometimes. Don't worry, Hairband at some point will implode. He always does. Its a matter of how much the DC/HC want's to play him.

Think they are playing Sanchez more this week so they can play Geno for a good amount of time next week?

Well if hairband will implode at some point which will cause Geno to play during the season, then whats the point in not having Geno continue to reps with the 1s?

Games 3 and 4 in preseason and they still don't know who the starting Qb is? Not even the Jets are that dysfunctional. They know, but they're playing coy with the information.

Geno's biggest adversary right now isn't Hairband, its the calendar.

To make up for not being able to start this week because of injury, plus Sanchez playing like crap against the Jags.

At this point the Jets arent in place to follow the traditional preseason layout. I believe Russel Wilson didnt start until the 3rd preseason game... Not that Geno is Wilson, but he could start next game. We'll see though.

The point is, the team has to get ready for the regular season. The DC/HC has to make a decision PDQ as to who will start. So far, Hairband has gotten most of the reps with the new system and OC. If Geno comes out and suddenly looks like Brady or RGIII, I'm sure there will be another discussion. If not, this "competition" is over. Perhaps it was the ankle roll, perhaps it was Rex wanting his guy all along. Keep in mind RR is coaching for his job and that is, for better or worse, linked to hairband's performance this season. No way does Rex want to have his job depend on a rookie Qb.

Next week will tell the tale. If they still haven't made a decision yet as to who "the man" is, then we all should give the fisheye to the entire Jet FO/CS. We know they're not the most efficient organization in football, but to put this decision off again is putting the entire 2013 season in doubt. If I were a betting man, and I am, I would bet a nice pile on Hairband being the starter on day 1.

So would I. But if Im Rex, Idzik or Marty, today's performance by Mark definitely leaves this supposedly fair competition still somewhat open. Mark has only proven that he is still incredibly inconsistent. I think Mark will be the starter, but Im not calling the competition after today's performance.
