If this is the truth, then he gets a pass from me, no one should have to worry about that kinda stuff when they're at the game. Was he really getting death threats to his family as well? I still love my jets, still watch and support them, but has come to the point that I realize that for me to get jacked up, lose sleep/any other situation that affects REAL life, is not worth dwelling on, as these guys all wake up the next day, counting they're millions in the bank...

Shows how much you know. There was no "original" guy. In the 80s, the chant started up organically all over the stadium ... there were "original" guys in almost every section.

ANSWER: Peter Schwartz - My Beef With Fireman Ed

Additionally, Joe Benigno (who is the world's best Jets fan) also hates him, for mostly the same reasons; however, I couldn't find an audio clip of him explaining why to link to.

I cant attest to it as fact but he has said it in interviews and other fans from hi seating area have confirmed it. Some of the stories he told from his final year as "fireman" ed were pure sickening.

I never said anything about people who do not like him i said something about people who have an issue with why he left actually. Doesnt matter if it happens only to jets fans or across every team there is.
If you support it youre a scumbag. The guys who did what they did to him or think it was ok for it to be done to him are also scumbags. This really isnt debatable its fact.

    You’re full of shit.

Sounds like it’s directed at people here who don’t like Firman Ed. I’m indifferent about the guy myself.

Yeah, it shows how much I know. I gave you the guy's first name - you're not getting his last or his social security number unless you can prove you're a Nigerian prince with an extra twenty million you need deposited. Or, we could believe things your way - that one day in a stadium long ago something was added to the beer so in every section of the building one guy was inspired to lead his neighbors in the same chant being sung in every other section; they all came up with the same inspiration simultaneously.

Okay, so you read a column by Schwartz and let him tell you how to think. I had read Schwartz's holier-than-thou screed a while ago and then, as now, I asked if Schwartz was getting paid to attract people to his radio show and the crew was getting paid to put it on the air and the sponsors were hoping to get paid with business why should there be one guy in the building - one who might actually provoke some interest from listeners, be required to be there in all his magnanimity? Should he be honored simply to be in the presence of such broadcast royalty?

And you're right, Benigno is definitely the world's best Jets fan - just ask him and he'll tell you over and over and over again. But does he really "hate" him? Is that because of the busload of school kids he pushed over a cliff, the water source he poisoned in a backwoods nation or because Anzalone speaks better English than Joe Blow does?

IDC if you think im full of shit if you support that type of behavior then you shouldn't mind being called a scumbag.
    #facts

The comment was at people who disliked him for no other reason than him being popular and a face of the Jets fan base.
Was also at the people who continue to spread this bullshit parrot routine of he quit cause the team was tanking or cause the team sucked
ect ect ect. All of those bullshit haters comments that they repeat because some other fuck tard repeated what some idiot said.
He was chased out of his season ticket holder seats and out of his fireman ed routine.
Everyone ignores the fact he still continued to come to home games just stepped down as the superfan.

The guy was pure loyalty for this team and while I may not have been his biggest fan I respect the shit out of him for his loyalty
and I empathize for the scumbag "fans" he had to endure.

OK Children, In my intoxicated state, let me explain the origin of Fireman Ed,

Back in the early days of when the Jets first played in Giants Stadium, the Jets chant was scattered, as in every section had somebody to initiate it.

In the Upper decks, on opposite sides of the field, there was one guy who did the chant only with his helmet on and a group of 4 guys in each opposite end zone in the upper deck that did the chant whenever the opposition had the ball. The chant would go back and forth all game long. Each side trying to be louder than the other.

I always wondered what would happen if everybody in the stadium did it at once and then came Fireman Ed. He was one of the guys that lead the chant BUT his seat was right in the aisle where the TV cameras were located So...

They put him up on the big screen and suddenly, the chat couldn't be done without his starting it.

To be honest, it was awesome to hear the whole stadium doing the chant BUT, To hear both endzones and scattered sections doing it and disrupting the opposing offenses was quite fun.

He was a Fins fan till about 16-17 years old before switching over to arguably the Phins biggest rival, the Jets. He grew up a stones throw from Shea and would have been 10 years old at the time of SB III yet still went with the Phins as a kid. Just because he starts a chant at the stadium does not mean he gets a pass for jumping teams.

The vast majority of fans posting here have been life long Jets fans, through the worst of seasons and certainly have the right to point out that he is indeed a band-wagoner, so you fuck off with your nonsense.

So much turmoil over some guy in a hat.

Ed made his own bed...every true Jet fan knows what happens when you cheer this team.

    The chant should be-

    R----O----F----L
    Jets_Jets_Jets!!!

You tried to say that the scumbag comment was only directed at people who were threatinging him, etc, then you dropped the line above.

I think that you don’t know what you think, so I’ll leave you to your thoughts.

My vote was indifferent also, I have more of a problem with people that color him as some kind of super fan.

Near the end, he was trending more Philly Phanatic than Jet booster.

Some inside skinny, he was a Dolphins fan (like a bunch of other idiot kids when the Miami pukes went undefeated, won it all including a SB, Bob Griese, Larry Csonka, Mercury Morris, yecch). He probably slept with that poster every night (does anyone remember that abomination poster?). He's OK, no love or hate in ether direction; but he sat out an entire season because he had a disability case pending against the city and NYFD so that's why he was absent for a year. It was before 9/11; but it would've messed up his case if he went to any games let alone the rest of it so his lawyer told him to sit home (that was in The Old Dump). No-one remembers that he was absent for a year except for him getting harassed years later and quit.

Fire Man Ed = PhillyStaxxx - on a lesser level.
